My six-day trip to Kada Dam was an unforgettable experience that provided me with invaluable opportunities for personal and social growth. Living amidst the local community, I immersed myself in their way of life, interacted with them on a personal level, and participated in their daily activities.
LO1: Identify own strengths and develop areas for growth.
The trip challenged me to step outside my comfort zone and adapt to a new environment. I discovered my ability to connect with people from different backgrounds and appreciate their unique perspectives. However, I also realized that my patience and adaptability could be further developed, especially when facing language barriers and cultural differences.
LO2: Demonstrate that challenges have been undertaken, developing new skills.
Participating in local activities like basket making, farming, and pottery introduced me to new skills and challenges. I learned traditional techniques, overcame physical obstacles, and developed a deeper appreciation for the craftsmanship and hard work involved in these activities.
LO5: Demonstrate skills and benefits of working collaboratively.
Throughout the trip, I collaborated with my peers and the local community members on various projects and activities. We worked together to prepare meals, organize village visits, and participate in group activities. These collaborative experiences fostered teamwork, communication skills, and a sense of community.
LO6: Engagement with issues of global significance.
Living in a rural community provided me with a unique perspective on global issues. I witnessed the challenges faced by local residents, such as limited access to healthcare, education, and economic opportunities. This experience heightened my awareness of social inequalities and the importance of sustainable development.
LO7: Recognise and consider the ethics of choices and actions.
Interacting with the local community allowed me to reflect on the ethical implications of choices and actions. I witnessed the impact of tourism on the local environment and economy, and considered the importance of responsible travel and cultural sensitivity.
The itinerary of the trip was thoughtfully designed to provide a comprehensive experience. From village visits and local interactions to hands-on activities like farming and pottery, each day offered new opportunities for learning and growth. The highlight of the trip was the trek to Jambughoda Sanctuary, where I participated in rappelling and an obstacle rope course, challenging myself physically and mentally.
My trip to Kada Dam was a transformative experience that enriched my understanding of different cultures, broadened my horizons, and instilled a sense of global citizenship. The memories and lessons learned will stay with me for years to come.
