I was a member of the organizing team for Fountainhead School’s 10th Model United Nations Conference. This two-day event marked the 10th edition of FSMUN and was a great success, featuring 10 committees and over 300 delegates. As part of the decor committee, my responsibilities included brainstorming decor ideas that aligned with the theme, designing logos, setting up photo booths and backdrops, and assisting with transitions between events. Being an art student, I found this experience particularly engaging, as it allowed me to apply my creativity and contribute to the visual aspects of the conference.

LO1- Identify own strengths and develop areas for growth Although I had participated in the organizing committee before, this experience was unique as I was more deeply involved. I played an active role in developing decor concepts, planning the photo booth setup, determining execution strategies, and managing resource allocation. Through this, I recognized my strength in conceptualizing creative ideas that complemented the event’s theme. I thoroughly enjoyed designing layouts and envisioning how different venues could be decorated. Now that I am aware of this strength, I can apply it to future events and continue refining my skills.

LO2- Demonstrate that challenges have been undertaken, developing new skills in the process Organizing an event comes with many challenges, and we faced several difficulties both before and during FSMUN. Within the decor team, one of our main issues was acquiring resources. At times, materials arrived late, or we did not have enough time slots to complete tasks on schedule. However, we worked together as a team to find solutions. Another major challenge was working within a tight budget. We had to be resourceful, using creative and critical thinking to ensure that our designs remained visually appealing while staying cost-effective. On the day of the event, new challenges emerged some committees required additional decor elements, certain organizing members were unavailable, and last-minute requests came from delegates and chairs. I relied on my self-management skills to handle my assigned responsibilities while assisting others whenever needed. The skills I developed in problem-solving and adaptability will be valuable for future endeavors.

LO5-Demonstrate the skills and recognize the benefits of working collaboratively FSMUN is a large-scale event, requiring extensive teamwork across multiple departments. Within the decor committee alone, we had about 15-20 members. I prefer to divide tasks efficiently, ensuring that everyone contributes and work progresses smoothly. During this experience, we faced challenges such as organizing members canceling at the last minute, but we quickly adapted by redistributing tasks among the team. At times, I took on additional responsibilities to ensure everything was completed on time. Our collaboration was key to the event’s success, and this experience reinforced the importance of teamwork. In the future, I will continue applying these skills to group projects and professional tasks that require effective cooperation.

LO6- Demonstrate engagement with issues of global significance While my primary role was in organizing the event, FSMUN’s core purpose is to educate future leaders about pressing global issues and encourage diplomatic problem-solving. Each committee was assigned a specific agenda addressing international concerns. Through this event, I gained insight into worldwide challenges and the importance of critical thinking in developing peaceful solutions. Understanding these global issues deepens our awareness and equips us to contribute meaningfully to discussions about them.

CONCLUSION-

Overall, this experience was incredibly valuable. It allowed me to identify and reflect on my strengths and areas for improvement, collaborate with others to achieve a common goal, tackle new challenges, and engage with important global topics. As a member of the decor team, I aimed to create an atmosphere that maintained the formality of a conference setting while also respecting cultural elements. Moving forward, I plan to apply the lessons learned from this experience to future collaborative projects and leadership opportunities.
