The farewell ceremony is a significant event for the senior school, allowing us, the juniors, to bid a heartfelt goodbye to the graduating class as they close an important chapter of their school life. For us in grade 11, it is more than just an event it is an opportunity to step beyond our comfort zones and contribute to a truly unforgettable day. This year, I was fortunate to be a part of the main leadership team, where my teammates and I were responsible for overseeing various departments such as decor, dance, and logistics to ensure the event’s success. This experience was invaluable, as it allowed me to strengthen my leadership skills, collaborate with multiple departments, manage teams effectively, and witness our month long hard work come to life on the final day. Beyond organizing the event, I also participated in the dance team, as I have always been eager to try new things and develop new skills. This gave me the chance to push myself, learn multiple dance routines over the course of a month, and experience the teamwork required to deliver a synchronized performance in front of an audience.

LO1 – Identifying Strengths and Areas for Growth
One of my key strengths is my organizational ability I plan tasks, set deadlines, and ensure teamwork so that everyone fulfills their responsibilities efficiently. This skill played a crucial role in ensuring the event’s success. Additionally, my creativity helped me contribute to song selections for the dance team and offer ideas for decorations. However, I also identified areas for improvement, such as learning to accept that not everything will go as planned and having contingency plans in place. We faced several challenges, such as delays in receiving resources, and while I initially struggled with wanting everything to be perfect, I learned to adapt and work with the situation at hand.

LO2 – Taking on Challenges and Developing New Skills
The journey was filled with challenges, one of the most significant being the critical feedback we received. Despite our best efforts, we often felt undervalued, which led to moments of self-doubt. Additionally, we frequently encountered logistical issues, such as resources arriving at the last minute. This was my first time planning such an important event with just a small core team and a few teachers, making the process even more challenging. However, we persevered by pushing ourselves beyond our comfort zones. Whenever we faced obstacles, we sought alternatives, adjusted our plans, and continued working tirelessly. From ensuring transport arrangements to designing e-invites, we dedicated all our free time to making sure everything was completed on schedule, and in the end, our efforts paid off with a successful farewell event.

LO3 – Initiating and Planning a CAS Experience
As mentioned earlier, this event was a major responsibility, and I had never managed anything like this before. While my organizational skills helped me prioritize tasks and meet deadlines, working on this scale was a new challenge. Initially, our team consisted of only eight members, making it difficult to handle all responsibilities. However, as our sub-teams expanded, managing a larger group presented its own challenges. I focused on my role of overseeing sub-teams, ensuring that each group fulfilled its assigned duties. With guidance from teachers and support from my teammates, I created a structured plan with designated deadlines, which helped keep everything on track. This experience made me realize that I genuinely enjoy event planning and that initiating and managing large-scale projects is an essential skill for teamwork and leadership development.

LO4 – Demonstrating Commitment and Perseverance
The farewell planning spanned nearly two months (December 27 – February 17), making it difficult to balance schoolwork with event preparations. Many tasks overlapped with academic deadlines, and since we couldn’t miss classes for event work, we had to come in early for weeks to complete everything on time. This made our days long and exhausting, but our commitment to the event kept us going. We understood the expectations placed upon us by both teachers and seniors, and despite the obstacles, we remained dedicated to delivering a memorable experience.

LO5 – Collaborating and Recognizing the Value of Teamwork
Teamwork played a crucial role in making this event a success. What started as a small group of eight soon expanded into a team of 51, and without collaboration, executing such a large-scale event would have been impossible. We spent hours working together, offering support, listening to each other’s ideas, solving problems, and innovating. Most importantly, we respected each other’s contributions, even when opinions differed. Compromise and teamwork were essential in ensuring that everyone’s ideas were heard and that we worked together harmoniously.

LO7 – Understanding Ethical Decision-Making
Although the farewell was a fun and celebratory event, we had to ensure that all our decisions aligned with school policies and upheld ethical standards. Additionally, we had to be mindful of the resources provided by the school, ensuring that they were used efficiently and not wasted. Responsible decision-making was key in maintaining the integrity of the event and respecting the institution’s values.

In conclusion, organizing the farewell wasn’t just about creating a memorable send-off for the seniors it was also a transformative journey for me. Through this experience, I developed leadership and social skills, pushed myself beyond my comfort zone, and overcame numerous challenges. Above all, this event fostered personal growth and a deep sense of accomplishment that I will carry forward in the future.
