Freshers is an exciting party organized by seniors to welcome their juniors into the school community. This event serves as an opportunity for new students to break the ice and start forming friendships in a fun and engaging environment. I was a part of the decor team and we had to ensure that the room looked appealing for our juniors.
LO2: Demonstrate that challenges have been undertaken, developing new skills
My comfort zone definitely isn’t in art and crafts; I often find myself lacking creativity, especially when it comes to tasks like decoration. However, recognizing the importance of making the event visually appealing motivated me to step outside my comfort zone. I knew I had to put in extra effort to overcome this challenge. By pushing myself and help from my peers I not only contributed to creating a beautiful atmosphere for the event but also gained new skills and confidence in my abilities. This experience taught me that stepping outside my comfort zone can lead to rewarding outcomes, both personally and for the team.
LO3 Demonstrate how to initiate and plan a CAS experience
As a member of the decor team, I organized brainstorming sessions with the team. Collaborating in this way allowed everyone to contribute their creative ideas, ensuring a diverse range of concepts that could make the event more engaging. I established a timeline for when tasks needed to be completed, from sourcing materials to setting up decorations on the day of the event. This planning helped keep everyone organized and ensured that deadlines were met. This involved setting clear goals, collaborating effectively, managing resources, and reflecting on the process—all essential skills that contributed to your growth and the success of the event.
LO4: Show commitment to and perseverance in CAS experiences
Despite feeling nervous at first and facing challenges due to my limited artistic skills, I was determined to make the Fresher’s weekend a success. The preparation involved several weeks of careful planning and coordination. Even when confronted with last-minute changes and unforeseen issues, I stayed committed and focused on creating a welcoming experience for the new students. This dedication enabled me to see the event through to the end.
LO6: Demonstrate engagement with issues of global significance
“The Fresher’s weekend was essential in promoting inclusivity and building a sense of community within our school. By creating a welcoming atmosphere for students from various backgrounds, we helped foster global awareness and cultural understanding. The activities were specifically designed to break down barriers and encourage students to connect across different cultural and social groups.â€
