At the Bal Mela organized by fountainhead school, I had the opportunity to teach sports, especially football, to unprivileged children. My goal was to give them a chance to learn the fundamentals of football and engage in unique, enjoyable games, creating a positive and inclusive environment. It was incredibly rewarding to watch them play, laugh, and support each other. This experience taught me important lessons in planning, teamwork, global engagement, and ethical responsibility.

LO 3:
To make this experience effective, I needed to plan each activity carefully. Teaching sports to children required a structured approach, so I outlined various games and drills that would keep them engaged while gradually introducing basic football skills. I also prepared alternative activities to ensure all skill levels were accommodated, making the sessions both organized and fun.

LO 6:
This experience opened my eyes to the importance of providing equal access to sports and recreational activities for all children, regardless of their socioeconomic background. Through the Bal Mela, I aimed to promote physical well-being and social interaction for these children, addressing the broader global issue of inequality in access to sports and leisure. By supporting their right to play and learn in a safe, structured environment, I felt I was contributing to a positive change, however small.

LO 5:
Collaboration was essential to making this experience enjoyable and effective. I worked closely with other volunteers to coordinate activities and ensure we had adequate supervision and support for each game. By collaborating with my peers, we were able to create a lively, interactive environment where the children felt encouraged and supported. This teamwork helped foster a sense of community and joy among the children, enhancing their overall experience.

LO 7:
Teaching unprivileged children required sensitivity and ethical awareness. I took care to treat each child with respect and made sure that the activities were inclusive, giving all kids an equal chance to participate, regardless of skill level. Ensuring fair play, promoting positive reinforcement, and maintaining a respectful environment were essential in making the experience fulfilling and ethically sound.

The Bal Mela experience was a memorable and impactful opportunity to engage with children through sports, instilling joy and teamwork. I learned valuable lessons in planning, ethical responsibility, and collaboration, while also engaging with a significant social issue. Watching the children’s happiness and enthusiasm reminded me of the importance of equal access to opportunities and the positive impact that thoughtful planning and teamwork can bring to others. This experience strengthened my understanding of inclusive teaching and the power of play in building a supportive, joyful community.
