HDP PS is a program which offers a variety of sports options, giving us the freedom to choose a sport based on our preference. I have taken Table Tennis under HDP PS. Table tennis helps develop focus, improve reflexes and maintain concentration over long periods. The experience helped me identify my strengths and work on my weaknesses.
LO1. Identify Own Strengths and Develop Areas for Growth
Table Tennis requires several skills such as reaction time, hand-eye coordination and mental focus. It is a fast paced game, requiring quick reflexes and the ability to make split-second decisions. My ability to stay focused during long rallies and maintain concentration under pressure could also be an advantage that helps me excel in this sport. Although, there are also areas where I could improve like my footwork and technique. Spin is an essential component and it is where my weakness lies. It is crutial for controlling the pace and direction of the ball, and they add complexities to the game. I have not mastered these techniques, so refining my strokes and understanding when to use spins will be an important focus for me. Another area I hope to improve is my footwork and positioning around the table. Being in the right position to return the ball is just as important as the actual shot itself. I need to work on moving efficiently, positioning my body correctly for each return.
LO4. Show perseverance and commitment in CAS experience
Table Tennis demands a lot of paitience. Initially, I was unable to show any improvement and was stuck at one place. It is a sport that requires steady, consistent practice in order to improve. The technical skills involved, such as mastering spins, timing, and footwork, take time to develop. Early on, I used to struggle with basic strokes or miss the ball very often, but I knew that practice and dedication would help me improve. Throughout the year, I commited to practicing regularly, even when progress seems slow or when I feel frustrated by mistakes. Perseverance in each practice session helped my improve incrementally. Whether I am practicing with a partner or working alone on my serves and footwork. At times, I might lose a match or make mistakes that disrupt my rhythm. It’s easy to feel discouraged. However, I kept going on instead of becoming frustrated or giving up. For example, if I struggle with a particular technique, like my backhand or positioning, I will persist and continue to practice.
