I had taken up ‘Anand Utsav’ as my project and I was in the organizing committee of the project. As the name suggests, it was a fun and entertaining project. It was an event organized to honor and appreciate the support staff at our school. As a member of the core organizing team, I helped plan and execute this special initiative, which aimed to bridge the gap between students and the support staff, and to show our gratitude for their tireless efforts. The event was designed to celebrate their hard work and create a sense of inclusivity within the school community.

This CAS experience falls under all three aspects: Creativity, Activity and Service. Creativity was required in the planning phase, where we brainstormed ways to make the event engaging and meaningful for everyone involved. Activity was reflected in the physical aspects of the event, such as participating in dances and games, and interacting with the staff. Service was the core of the project, as it focused on giving back to those who help maintain the smooth functioning of the school.

LO1. Identify Own Strengths and Develop Areas for Growth

During this experience, I realized both my strengths and weaknesses. My strengths lie in organizing the event and managing the members and volunteers of my committee. I have a natural aptitude for organizing and coordinating events. I was able to efficiently oversee different aspects of the celebration, from planning the activities to ensuring that everything ran smoothly on the day of the event. Although, I also recognized areas where I can develop. I found it difficult to delegate tasks, and as a result, I ended up feeling overwhelmed at times. This reluctance to trust others with critical tasks created unnecessary stress and affected my ability to focus on the bigger picture.

LO2. Demonstrate That Challenges Have Been Undertaken, Developing New Skills in the Process

Anand Utsav was a challenge for me, particularly in ensuring that the event was both meaningful and enjoyable for the support staff. Balancing the need to create an engaging and fun atmosphere while also showing genuine appreciation for their hard work required careful thought and coordination. To tackle this challenge, I focused on clear and consistent communication with my team. We broke down the planning process into smaller, more manageable tasks and stayed flexible to adapt to any issues that arose. Through the event, I developed skills in leadership and event management. I learned how to work with a team and coordinate each tasks with all members present in the team.

LO3. Demonstrate how to initiate and plan a CAS experience

Planning the event required a lot of organization. I had to create a timeline, coordinate timing of all volunteers, guide them with their tasks and ensure all materials for the games are present and audio for performances are ready. It was also difficult to coordinate with all of the members. The entire process was quite difficult to manage but with perseverance, we were able to properly execute the entire plan. We created deadlines and consulted with our advisor as soon as we completed our tasks.

LO4. Show commitment to, and perseverance in, CAS experiences

Commitment is key to organize any sort of event. There were moments of doubt, when the pressure of managing so many tasks and ensuring that every detail was attended to seemed almost too much. Yet, I pushed through those difficult times, reminding myself of the impact the event would have. In the end, all our efforts paid off. Anand Utsav became a meaningful celebration, and seeing the positive response from the support staff made all the hard work worthwhile. This experience taught me the value of perseverance and how sticking with something, even when it feels challenging, can lead to rewarding results. I gained a greater sense of self-discipline and resilience, knowing that the effort I put in would lead to a successful and fulfilling outcome.

LO5. Demonstrate the skills and recognize the benefits of working collaboratively

Working in a team can be difficult at times. Although, with a team that collaborates with each other and has good coordination, the task became quite simple. Although, at times we had disagreements in terms of performances and aspects of the project, although we considered everyone’s opinions and made changes to fit the likings of all. Despite these obstacles, we all strived for the same objective, and the event was a success because of our cooperation.

LO6. Demonstrate engagement with issues of global significance

The core of Anand Utsav was to address the issue of social inequality, particularly the overlooked disparity between students and support staff. By organizing this event, we aimed to recognize and appreciate the vital contributions of the support staff, emphasizing the importance of creating a more inclusive and respectful community. This issue resonates globally since it showcases the need for equality, dignity and respect for all individuals, regardless of their position or role in society. Engaging directly with the support staff during the event helped me better understand how small, thoughtful actions can contribute to reducing inequality. It became clear that moments of appreciation and recognition, though simple, can have a powerful impact on fostering a sense of belonging and respect.

LO7. Recognize and consider the ethics of choices and actions

While looking at ethics, we had to make sure to acknowledge the value of every indivisual. The ethical issue being whether we were doing enough to respect and appreciate the efforts of the people support the working of a school daily. I didn’t quite understand the extent of their contribution prior to this activity, but after planning the event, I have a much deeper respect for the individuals who improve the atmosphere at school.

Final Takeaway

Through this project, the learner profiles I displayed were open-minded and communicators. I became more open-minded by working in a team and taking everyone’s point of view into consideration. Also, communicators since we had to coordinate and communicate as an entire team.
