Introduction
Participating in the AS HDP program as part of my CAS experience has been one of the most enriching opportunities of my academic life. Drama, a craft that demands creativity, discipline, and collaboration, not only pushed me out of my comfort zone but also helped me explore critical global issues through art. Competing in a national-level drama competition through this program was an exhilarating experience that tested my perseverance, communication skills, and ability to adapt to challenges.

LO1: Identifying Strengths and Developing Areas for Growth
Drama revealed strengths I had not previously acknowledged, including my ability to empathize with characters and convey emotions convincingly on stage. However, I also identified areas where I needed growth, such as voice projection and improvisation under pressure. With consistent feedback from mentors and peers, I worked diligently to hone these aspects. This self-awareness was empowering, helping me improve not only as a performer but also as an individual.

LO2: Facing Challenges and Developing New Skills
Participating in a national competition was no small feat. It required extensive preparation, from scripting and rehearsals to mastering stage presence. One significant challenge was adapting to last-minute script changes, which demanded quick thinking and flexibility. Overcoming this taught me the importance of staying calm and creative under pressure. I also developed skills in dramatic timing, body language, and effective storytelling.

LO4: Perseverance and Commitment
Preparing for the competition demanded weeks of practice, long hours of rehearsals, and moments of self-doubt. Despite the rigorous schedule, I remained committed to giving my best. This perseverance paid off when our team performed seamlessly, leaving the audience captivated. It was a reminder of how dedication and hard work can lead to remarkable outcomes.

LO5: Collaboration and Teamwork
Drama is inherently a collaborative art form. From rehearsing the script to ensuring seamless synchronization during the performance, the competition emphasized the importance of teamwork. Each member brought unique strengths, and through effective communication, we turned our individual contributions into a cohesive and impactful performance. This experience underscored the benefits of working together to achieve a common goal.

LO6: Engagement with Issues of Global Significance
In the AS HDP program I also once participated in a drama that touched on the topic of disabilities and how people with disabilities are often marginalised, this touched on the topic of social inequalities which is of global significance.

IB Learner Profile Attributes
This experience allowed me to embody several IB learner profile attributes:

• Principled: We ensured our performance was respectful and aligned with the ethical considerations of the sensitive themes we portrayed.
• Risk-taker: Stepping onto a national stage was daunting, but it was a risk that helped me grow immensely as a performer and as an individual.
• Communicator: Drama required effective communication, not just through dialogue, but also through expressions, gestures, and movements.

Conclusion
The AS HDP program and the national drama competition were transformative experiences that combined creativity, teamwork, and social awareness. They pushed me to grow in ways I hadn’t imagined, instilling confidence and a deeper appreciation for the power of art in addressing global issues. This journey will forever remain a cornerstone of my CAS journey, shaping my identity as a principled, risk-taking communicator.
