The Creative Mela, held annually at our school, provided a unique opportunity for me to engage in a creative form of expression: brick painting. Tasked with teaching and facilitating students from Grades 7 to 9, I guided them through the process of painting on mud bricks using acrylic colours and various brushes. We offered a selection of designs but also encouraged them to unleash their creativity. This experience allowed me to revisit my own passion for painting and share it with my juniors, providing a platform for them to express themselves artistically.

Through this CAS experience, I identified my strength in creative expression and teaching. Recognizing the joy and satisfaction that painting brought me highlighted the importance of incorporating such activities into my routine. Knowing one’s strengths is crucial for personal growth. I realised that understanding my weaknesses, such as occasional impatience, is equally essential. Acknowledging these aspects has motivated me to work on cultivating patience, a skill valuable not only in teaching but also in various aspects of life. The challenge in teaching brick painting lay in catering to diverse skill levels and fostering a supportive environment. Overcoming this challenge required adapting my teaching style, providing individual attention, and ensuring everyone felt comfortable expressing themselves. This experience enhanced my communication and adaptability skills, fostering a sense of accomplishment. Discovering new skills, like managing a group with varying abilities, instilled confidence. This newfound skill is vital, not just in teaching but in navigating future collaborative endeavours. The activity demanded commitment as we navigated logistical challenges and the varied skill levels of participants. It was an exercise in perseverance, especially when faced with unexpected difficulties. This experience reinforced the importance of dedication and persistence in achieving goals. It made me appreciate the value of commitment in overcoming obstacles, a lesson applicable to future personal and professional endeavours. Collaboration during the brick painting activity showcased the importance of teamwork. While I generally find working with others easy, adapting to diverse personalities required flexibility. The experience emphasised the significance of effective communication and compromise. Handling challenging collaborations highlighted the need for diplomacy and conflict resolution, skills indispensable in any collaborative setting.

Engaging in this CAS experience developed my attributes as a communicator and thinker. The connection between my subject interest in physics and this creative endeavour lies in the shared need for creativity and critical thinking. The activity benefited others by providing a platform for self-expression. The highlight was witnessing the joy and pride in the students’ painted bricks. Perspectives were challenged, particularly in handling diverse skill levels. The experience brought a sense of accomplishment and enjoyment, emphasising the importance of incorporating creative pursuits into daily life. The learning from this activity will be applied in future collaborations, emphasising the value of patience and adaptability. Contributing to society involves fostering creativity in others, promoting holistic development. Success was achieved in the collective joy of creation, and failure was a teacher in adaptability.
