Teaching kids football as a volunteer was a fulfilling and enriching CAS experience. Although it wasn’t my own project, it provided me with an incredible opportunity to engage with young learners, share my passion for the sport, and grow in the process.

LO2: Demonstrate that challenges have been undertaken, developing new skills
Volunteering to teach football to kids presented several challenges that pushed me to step out of my comfort zone and develop new skills. Many of the children were new to the sport, so I had to simplify drills and find creative ways to explain techniques like passing, dribbling, and shooting. Keeping the kids engaged and focused was another challenge, as their energy levels often fluctuated. Through this experience, I honed my patience, communication, and adaptability. I also developed a better understanding of how to teach fundamental skills in a way that is fun and accessible for young learners.

LO4: Show perseverance and commitment in CAS experience
This experience required consistency and dedication, especially as I worked with the kids over multiple sessions. There were moments when progress felt slow or when some children struggled with certain techniques. However, I stayed committed to my role, putting in extra effort to create enjoyable and effective practice routines. I also sought feedback from other coaches to refine my teaching methods. By showing up for each session with a positive attitude and a determination to make a difference, I was able to see the kids improve and grow more confident in their abilities.

LO5: Demonstrate skills and benefits of working collaboratively
Working as part of a team of volunteers and coaches was an essential aspect of this experience. Together, we planned drills, divided responsibilities, and ensured that each session ran smoothly. Collaborating with others not only made the sessions more organized but also created a supportive environment where everyone could contribute their strengths. I learned the importance of clear communication, mutual respect, and sharing ideas to create an impactful learning experience for the kids. The teamwork extended beyond the field, as we discussed strategies to improve the sessions and celebrate the kids’ progress together.

Volunteering to teach football to children was more than just an opportunity to share my knowledge of the sport—it was a journey of personal growth and collaboration. Through overcoming challenges, staying committed, and working as part of a team, I developed valuable skills and witnessed the joy and enthusiasm of the kids as they learned and played. This experience reinforced the importance of patience, teamwork, and perseverance in making a positive impact on others.
