Playing sports has been a life-changing experience for me as part of my CAS (Creativity, Activity, Service) path. Even though I didn’t think of myself as a fitness enthusiast at first, this project helped me learn new skills, overcome obstacles, and advance both socially and emotionally. With an emphasis on the learning outcomes LO1, LO3, LO4, and LO6, this blog describes my progress.

I wasn’t physically active when I first started, and the idea of playing sports made me nervous. But I realised that increasing my level of fitness was crucial for cultivating resilience and discipline in addition to my physical well-being. I was able to pinpoint my areas of weakness—such as consistency, coordination, and endurance—and improve them with consistent practice and introspection. Despite my initial trepidation, I was willing to take on this task, which was my strength. Significant obstacles were my early lack of energy and fitness as well as my self-doubt about my skills. I conquered them by beginning with simple activities like bodyweight motions, jogging, and stretching. I stayed motivated throughout by establishing attainable goals and acknowledging minor accomplishments.

I actively participated in organising team sports and workouts as I grew more accustomed to physical activity. Researching and planning warm-ups, exercises, and cool-down techniques was part of this, as was working with peers to choose sports that were appropriate for each person’s ability level and modifying plans in response to group input and advancement. At first, it was difficult for me to participate in planning because I was still learning the fundamentals. But it also taught me how important teamwork, flexibility, and preparedness are.

Possibly the largest obstacle was consistency. It took a lot of work to participate actively and to arrive on time each day. Despite my lack of motivation on some days, I managed to persevere by adhering to the program. Setting reminders, sticking to a daily schedule, enlisting the support of a friend for accountability, and taking stock of my accomplishments to stay motivated were all tactics that enabled me to stay consistent.

Along the way, I also learnt how crucial fitness is in addressing global problems like obesity, mental health disorders, and sedentary lifestyles. I helped spread the word about the advantages of leading an active lifestyle and inspired others to put their health first by encouraging physical activity among our group. I became more active after realising the wider effects of exercise on world health, and I even encouraged friends and family to join me by sharing my experience.

My CAS experience with physical sports is proof of development by tenacity and introspection. From a reluctant novice to someone who appreciates and enjoys fitness, I’ve discovered that even a little first step can result in profound individual and group change. In addition to enhancing my physical well-being, this experience has given me a feeling of accountability and dedication that goes beyond athletics.
