Donate food

As part of my CAS journey, I actively participated in a food donation drive organized by my school. Alongside my peers, we traveled to a nearby village to distribute food to families in need. This experience not only allowed us to address a critical issue of food insecurity, but it also broadened my perspective on the importance of teamwork and global challenges.

LOR 4: Show perseverance and commitment in CAS experience

Since the food donation sessions were scheduled on weekends, I demonstrated perseverance and dedication by consistently attending without hesitation. Even though I often value my extra sleep on weekends, I made the conscious decision to prioritize this important activity instead. I recognized that my personal comfort could be sacrificed for a greater cause, and I was determined to show up each week, fully committed to making a difference. This experience taught me the value of discipline and the importance of pushing myself to be part of something meaningful, even when it meant stepping outside my usual routine.

LOR 6: Demonstrate engagement with issues of global significance

Food insecurity represents a significant challenge worldwide, and this experience allowed me to engage with it on a community scale. Meeting families who struggle to meet their basic needs was profoundly enlightening, underscoring the necessity of collaboration in tackling these issues. While our efforts may have been modest, they emphasized the critical need to address these disparities in order to foster a more just and equitable society.

LO7- Recognize and consider the ethics of choices and actions.

Having grown up in a financially secure environment, I have always enjoyed the luxury of choosing my meals, selecting my educational institutions, and purchasing items at will. However, during a recent food donation experience, I came to understand the true significance of food. Witnessing individuals pleading for sustenance and struggling to earn just enough to survive profoundly impacted me. This experience led me to reflect on my past habits of wasting food and to recognize the importance of appreciating the privileges I have been afforded.
