Kalakriti: A Remarkable Inter-School Art and Design Competition

Kalakriti, an inter-school art and design competition, brought together over 1000 participants from more than 35 schools, showcasing exceptional talent in various art forms such as singing, dance, and rangoli design. As a volunteer for the music vocals segment, my primary role was to assist the lead teacher in managing the venue and ensuring the event ran smoothly. My responsibilities included coordinating with the hosts, maintaining communication with the judges about schedule changes, addressing participant concerns, and ensuring the event proceeded seamlessly. Despite having a prearranged performance schedule, unexpected delays due to late arrivals required frequent adjustments, which meant constantly updating the judges, hosts, and participants about the revised timings. Managing these real-time changes under pressure provided valuable insight into the complexities of organizing art events, from handling logistics to addressing seemingly minor details like environmental distractions, such as a fan disrupting the judges’ focus. Additionally, observing the judges’ evaluation process gave me a fresh perspective on the nuances of assessing creative performances.

Working collaboratively with the lead teacher and support staff was a key aspect of this experience. Palak Ma’am, the music vocals teacher, encouraged me to take initiative, allowing me to directly assist the student hosts and suggest improvements to their scripts. This creative freedom fostered a positive and enjoyable collaborative environment, leading to the event’s overall success.

Volunteering at Kalakriti was an enriching experience that deepened my understanding of event management, creative evaluation, and teamwork. It provided me with opportunities to strengthen my organizational and problem-solving skills while pushing me to adapt to unforeseen challenges.
