Being part of the Organizing Committee’s (OC) decor team for FSMUN 10.0 was both an encouraging and enjoyable experience. The event, an annual Model United Nations conference, brings together students who represent various countries to address global issues. As part of the decor team, it was my duty to organise, make, and arrange decorations that would give all delegates and guests a welcoming and professional experience.

LO2: Demonstrate that challenges have been undertaken, developing new skills

There were several obstacles to overcome when working on the decor team. We had a limited amount of time to set up the decorations before the event began each day, so time management was one of the main obstacles. Without sacrificing the calibre of our job, we had to move swiftly to make sure everything was in place. We also had trouble coming up with original concepts that complemented the MUN theme while remaining within the budget that had been set aside. These difficulties forced me to learn new abilities including creativity, innovative problem-solving, and time management.

LO3: Demonstrate how to initiate and plan a CAS experience

There was a lot of preparation and organisation involved in my position on the decor team. The entire process required careful preparation, from the first brainstorming sessions to carrying out our ideas. After determining the themes for each room, we made a list of the supplies required for the decorations. In order to make the main conference hall appear both official and interesting, I assisted in designing its layout. Through this experience, I learnt how to manage resources, make a strategy from scratch, and work with other team members to make sure everything went as planned.

LO5: Demonstrate the skills and recognize the benefits of working collaboratively

For the decor team to ensure that everything happened without an issue, cooperation was essential. Team members had to split up the work, which included decorating the committee rooms, making banners, and setting up the entrance area. Everyone was on the same page thanks in large part to effective communication, and we were always exchanging ideas to make the décor better. I learnt from this experience how important it is to listen to other people’s opinions, be receptive to suggestions, and value each team member’s contributions. The entire process was quicker and more enjoyable when everyone worked together.

It was a really enlightening experience to be a member of the OC decor team for FSMUN 10. It gave me the chance to use my imagination, practise time management, and discover the importance of teamwork. Seeing the end result, a beautifully decorated space filled with eager attendees, was amazing. It served as a reminder that even the most difficult projects can be completed effectively with the correct preparation, dedication, and teamwork.
