We had a trip to Mokhamal, Dang for 6 days and we experienced multiple things such as walking, stargazing, trekking, learning new things about how rural people live, and the culture of rural people, I came to know how minimalist the rural people are. The aim was to return home ‘aware’, more ‘experienced’, and having done more.
The most important part of this trip was to understand the differences between urban and rural life. How previllage we are and taking things that we have for granted. But as I experience staying in a rural area for a week, I came to know that we should be grateful for what we have and respect all the resources. I was shocked by seeing the people living in rural area where conditions are not so good, yet they have a smile on their faces at the end of the day. I felt very bad for the people living in such harsh conditions, still they were grateful for all that they gave, there was a lot to take. It made me think of the countless times I hadn’t been grateful despite all that I have.
LO1)Identify your own strengths and develop areas for personal growth:
Throughout this trip I learned many things about myself that I didn’t know that I have the capability of doing these things. I’ve learned and acquired knowledge about agriculture, basic human survival in the wild, and how to use the resources more efficiently and not waste anything. The experience showed me how I liked to work with the rural people, and I was very grateful to experience this thing. However, the experience also showed me some of my weaknesses such as the level of patience. Agricultural process takes a lot of Patience but this is the area were I lacked. The process like harvesting crops, and churning pulses to make flour is a time consuming process which requires lots of patience that I struggled with.
LO2) Demonstrate that challenges have been undertaken, developing new skills in the process.
There were some challenges that I have faced thought the trip that is the hectic schedule I had. There were some many activity like farming, welding, trekking, etc. It was the first time I have ever done this things so I had faced many challenges in doing farming, I faced with back pain etc. Another challenge that I have faced was the difference in the language as the tribal people speaks other language that I was not able to understand, the language they were using was “Dangi” which is a complete new language for me. Hence throughout the trip, I developed communicating skills as I tried to understand the Dangi language, I also learned that Dangi is somewhat similar to Gujarati.
LO4)Show commitment to and perseverance in CAS experiences.
Our countryside stay involves dedication and perseverance as we explored unknown landscapes and completed physically challenging activity. Despite the language barriers and diverse traditions, I was eagerly waiting to learn different skills that I previously did not possess which shows my dedication for learning new things. Whether it entailed rising at daybreak to assist with daily tasks such as farming, welding etc I eagerly and willingly completed all the work which shows the dedication and the perseverance that I have throughout the trip of Rural Immersion.
LO5)Demonstrate the skills and recognize the benefits of working collaboratively.
Working collaboratively is generally very beneficial. One day we have to spend a day in the school teaching the underprivileged children. So me and my friends divided ourselves into 2 groups, games and cooking. I volunteered for games, as there were many children who wanted to play. So in games also we divided in the group of 2 one football and one frisbee, I volunteered for football and taught the children how to kick the ball. Working collaboratively made it easier for us to taught them how to play football.
LO6)Demonstrate engagement with issues of global significance.
The lack of quality education, poverty, and cleanliness. I have learned about the issues that the school have in the rural areas by have never experienced it or saw it in real-life. This was the first time that I have ever experienced this issue. It is very important to solve this issue, to ensure the health and safety of the students and to make sure that each and every student has a clean and healthy life.
In conclusion, this trip was very amazing I had a lot of fun that I have not thought of. I learnt many new things and experienced life as a tribal. The learner profile I developed Caring and knowledgeable as I was able to gather a lot of information about rural India and I cared about the children of rural India a lot. It was a complete new experience for me and my favourite part of the trip was to hangout with friends and the trekking.
