Pi day was a event organized by our school on 14 March 2024 in celebration of the mathematical constant Ï€ and the great scientist Albert Einstein’s birthday. Pi Day is observed on March 14 since 3, 1, and 4 are the first three significant figures of Ï€, and it was first celebrated in the United States. Our school gave the opportunity to us students to showcase the knowledge and understanding about math’s and science concepts on PI day. To host such a event there was a lot of preparations and arrangements needed and in order to make the event look big success we needed a great decoration team for the event. I was a part of the decoration team, where I was assigned tasks to prepare for the decoration of the whole event. During the time period of the decoration of the event I learned some valuable skills like- creativity and thinking skills, and also have some other learnings which would be very beneficial for me in the future.

LO2 – Demonstrate that challenges have been undertaken, developing new skills.
Being a member of the PI Day decoration team was a worth while educational experience. Working together with others made me realize how important teamwork is, and the task of incorporating mathematical themes required critical thinking and creativity. There was extra pressure to work quickly because of the short window of time allotted for decorating. To complete our decorations in the given time period without compromising with quality or creativity, we had to use proper planning, task prioritization, and time management. It took some creative thinking to incorporate the PI Day theme and mathematical ideas into our PI Day decorations. This task required us to generate new ideas, experiment with different materials, and adjust our plans based on the resources available. Except this challenges there was a personal challenge for me as well which was waking up early. I am not familiar with waking up early everyday because I like to sleep but for this CAS experience I had to wake up early because we all participants of PI day were called early in our school for preparation which was a challenge for me. Except this, we participants of the decoration team were having pullouts from our regular slots for the preparations of the event which was a challenge for me because we were missing our studies which were important because our examination were near.
LO5 – Demonstrate skills and benefits of working collaboratively
I learned a lot about teamwork and collaboration from being a member of the PI Day decoration team. We as a team needed to brainstorm, divide tasks, and ensure that everyone understood their responsibilities and tasks. Although it wasn’t easy, I learned how important it is to listen to others to gather ideas and thoughts, make adjustments so that everyone can participate accordingly, and use everyone’s strengths in order to accomplish goals. Additionally, we as a team had to use a lot of creativity in our decorations so that our decoration could look aesthetic on the event day. It was difficult to try to fit the PI theme, science and math’s into everything. We had to be creative, and flexible with our ideas, and use a variety of materials to fit our decoration ideas. We also needed to work quickly because the event was near and many of the work was left to be done. We had to schedule our time, come early ins for doing work, prioritize our tasks, and avoid wasting any time. Although the event arrangements were stressful, it taught me the importance of working as a collaborate and corporate with each other because without working as a team we would have not been able to finish the tasks as soon as possible and even if we were not working as a team then we would not be able to make the event such a success. Overall, it was a pleasure to work on the PI Day decoration team. I learned a lot about teamwork, creativity, and effective time management from it.
LO3 – By participating in the Pi Day event as part of the decoration and planning team I was involved in brainstorming creative decoration ideas that aligned with the theme of mathematics, collaborating with team members to divide tasks effectively, and ensuring that all materials were prepared on time. I actively planned the layout and design of the event space to make it visually engaging and coordinated with others to manage the setup process smoothly. Through this, I developed my organizational and teamwork skills while taking responsibility for turning ideas into action, which contributed to the success of the event.
Learner Profile:-
- Thinking– While working for the decoration of the event, I learned some valuable thinking skills. We as a team had to come up with ideas for event decorations and figure out how to display them during the event which required critical thinking so that the decoration could look aesthetic. This made us to use our imaginations to search and encounter such ideas which would be suitable and would be looking aesthetic during the event. We also had to think about how to manage our time so that we could get everything done on time. Overall, the experience helped me think more creatively, resourcefully, and efficiently.
To conclude, Pi day was a very informative and joyful experience for me where I collaborated with my peers, teammates and my teachers to prepare for the whole event and on the other hand grant some new academic and useful knowledge about the subjects science and maths during the event.
