One of the most significant activities our school offers to IB DP students studying Business Management, and Economics is Global Odyssey. This event showcased the many abilities and skills of the student body while fostering a feeling of community and engagement. We were permitted to participate in the following categories: “fun, food, fashion, decor, & accounts.” In order to make this event enjoyable for everyone who attends, including my friends, I decided to put up a stand under the “Food” category with my peers.
After much deliberation, we came up with a bunch of dishes to serve during the event; London strawberry chocolate with/without marshmallows and pizookies. As all grades from 7th through 12th were anticipated to visit the event, we chose to have an all desert stall.
Learning Outcome 1: Identify own strengths and develop areas for growth
My creative and problem-solving skills became apparent to me while we designed and executed our stall. In addition, I knew that I still had some work to do in the areas of time management and communication. This encounter motivated me to continue honing these skills.
Learning Outcome 2: Demonstrate that challenges have been undertaken, developing new skills Obtaining supplies and managing the logistics were just two of the challenges faced when organizing the stall. Nevertheless, we saw these challenges as opportunities for growth and development. I learned how to delegate tasks, effectively manage resources, and handle unforeseen circumstances—all skills that will be useful in the future.
Learning Outcome 4: Show perseverance and commitment in CAS experience
Despite obstacles and setbacks along the way, our group persisted and remained committed to making our stall a success. To make sure that our peers had a good experience, we overcame technical difficulties and handled last-minute changes with excitement and tenacity.
Learning Outcome 5: Demonstrate skills and benefits of working collaboratively
Our CAS experience revolved around teamwork. By closely collaborating, my friends and I were able to overcome challenges together and make use of one another’s abilities. This occasion served as a reminder of the importance of cooperation and the tremendous benefits that come from teamwork.
Learning Outcome 7: Recognise and consider the ethics of choices and actions
We prioritised ethical considerations such as fairness, respect, and diversity to ensure that our stall adhered to the values of honesty and equity.
Along with achieving these learning goals, I also improved my critical thinking Learner Profile trait. Taking everything into account, participating in Global Odyssey was a fulfilling and enriching CAS experience. It offered me invaluable opportunities for personal growth in addition to allowing me to apply what I had learned in the classroom. This event encapsulated the essence of CAS and its transformative power on students, assisting them in acknowledging their own strengths and weaknesses as well as demonstrating resilience and teamwork.
