FS MUN is a phenomenal platform that offers a wealth of knowledge and an exhilarating experience. People from our school and other schools gather together on FS MUN, a sizable forum, to discuss contemporary concerns. I was able to represent South Africa at this event as the delegate for the “Ecofin” community, which discussed the global economic crisis with a focus on The Impact of De Dollarization in particular.

LO1 – Identify own strengths and develop areas for growth

Despite having participated in multiple MUNs in the past, I had never held the position of a delegate representing a nation. I feel that I have always struggled with public speaking, which is one of my biggest weaknesses as a delegate. As a result, I always chose to be a part of International Press, which required article writing, photography, and many other skills, but not public speaking.
As the conference progressed, I found that I was becoming more and I intended to get over my fear or weakness by joining the Ecofin community for a change, and I succeeded in doing so. As the conference went on, I noticed that I was growing more at ease with the people around me and the topics we were discussing, which really helped me get over my fear of public speaking.

LO2- Demonstrate that challenges have been undertaken, developing new skills

Time management was one of the biggest problems I had to deal with. I usually have a lot on my plate because I am an IB student. There are numerous tasks or assignments to complete every day. So, I found it problematic to find time to prepare myself for this event. Nonetheless, the day before, I was able to devote quite a bit of time. Along with that, sparing two entire days hindered the efficiency of my other tasks as well. This event helped me realize the importance of time management and planning ahead; a skill explicitly required by an IBDP student. To sum up, this helped me develop my time management skills and communication skills because communication and interaction skills are an integral part of representing in an MUN as a delegate of a nation.

LO3 – Initiate and plan a CAS experience

The agenda was one that can be categorized as complex, therefore planning and preparing content for the same required a lot of effort and research skills. Moreover, I had done MUNs before, but nothing other than International Press which required a different set of skills. It was my first time as a delegate, therefore planning and researching for the same served as a task to me.

LO5 – Demonstrate skills and benefits of working collaboratively.

We had several unmod sessions during the conference where we conversed with other delegates and heard their perspectives on the agenda. Multiple points of view from the representatives of the other nations are necessary in such a challenging debate.
Building allies is also crucial during Model UN conferences, as they aid in our efforts to win the title of “Best Delegate.” As a result, one of the very skills I developed over these two conference days was effective collaboration.
