Physical Sport (Ultimate Frisbee)

During the year 2023-2024, I started playing Ultimate Frisbee in Fountainhead school. I played frisbee since the beginning of the academic year, 6 slots, that is 6 hours, every 6-day cycle. I was completely new to frisbee and had not even lifted a disc before this. I was a completely beginner to the game and didn’t know anything about it. I was taught by the experienced and accomplished frisbee faculty at the school and I played amongst some of the very best talent of the game in the state. With the help of my peers and the efforts put in by my coaches, I played through the year and got the grip of the game entering a completely unexperienced player. My physical activity was also not quite as it should be at the time and I struggled with the physical strain as well as the athleticism required too, all of which I worked on improving upon through the year, developing a grip as well as a keen interest in the game along the way.

Learning Outcome 1 –  Identify own strengths and develop areas for growth:

First of all, since I had no clue about the sport and I am not a person who exercises regularly, I could see I was clearing lagging behind since day one. My endurance, speed, spatial judgement, mechanical precision and accuracy was missing and I pondered upon it. With daily fitness routines and willing myself to engage in physical pursuits, I started developing a better physical stamina and tolerance however my game still did not improve. I reflected a lot upon why this was and found some pretty valuable insights on why my mechanical accuracy was not on par. I learnt a lot about my weaknesses and worked on them, practicing for perfection whilst also identifying my strong zones, such as my impeccable player reads, my accurate in-game calls and my strategies and tactics which I then relied on more in my games.

Learning Outcome 2 – Demonstrate that challenges have been undertaken, developing new skills:

The rules of the game were completely new to me, the mechanics of the physical aspect of the game too and the sheer capability of handling the disc was quite new to me too. I did not know how to throw the disc much less maneuver it mid-air like is demanded sometimes. As mentioned earlier, at the beginning I did not have an agile or stamina-filled physical frame as well and this

Learning Outcome 4 – Show perseverance and commitment in CAS experience:

As mentioned earlier, I faced a significant amount of challenges and hurdles when I started Ultimate Frisbee and it was only through perseverance and self-discipline that I could gradually overcome those obstacles. Only through sheer willpower and persistence could I even bring myself to give it a shot and see how things turn out. My daily physical routines to enhance endurance, stamina, agility, mobility and many more was a very arduous journey for me and commitment to it was the only thing that lead me on and through to completion.

Learning Outcome 5 – Demonstrate skills and benefits of working collaboratively:

Any sport will require a lot of co-operation and team reliance. Collaboration is key to any game and that is something that I witnesses a lot during this experience. I firsthand saw the benefits of working together as a team with a greater win tally, more team confidence and better spirits. I understood that relying on one player to win the match is neither ideal nor realistic and that teamwork is a very powerful thing which leads pathways to success. During my experience, I saw this many times. Sometimes as a captain, I could see that the implementation of a strategy is done best when every individual plays together and fulfills their roles and responsibilities as a team of really good individuals is not better than a really good team.
