Every year, our school hosts Anand Utsav as a way to express gratitude to the support staff and recognise their contributions to the efficient operation of all school operations. I participated in this event as a games volunteer, helping with event logistics and organizing games for the support staff. During this experience, I went above and beyond to assist with activities and logistics. For example, I also helped the cooking team chop vegetables and serve food to support staff while the event was going on, as well as, help the decor team out.Â
LO3 – Initiate and plan the a CAS experience
All volunteers were asked to arrive at the school early in the morning to prepare for the afternoon start of the event. Teams comprising volunteers for games, cooking, decor and dance were formed, and we all assisted one another with all the jobs that had to be completed for the event to be a success. To make the event a success, we were all working nonstop from early in the morning until the end of the event. I provided a great deal of assistance to the decor team with setting up all the equipment needed for the event, running errands, and decorating the designated venues. In addition, I contributed to my own gaming team and assisted the cooking team as well.
LO5 – Demonstrate skills and benefits of working collaboratively
All volunteers were split up into several groups, yet we still worked together and supported one another both before and throughout the preparation process. Volunteers working in the games and dancing, like me, didn’t have any planning to do before the event—rather, it was all done on the spot. So we all assisted other team members in completing their tasks. The enormous task of decorating three distinct venues required teamwork and an increased number of hands due to the creative nature of the process; we all worked together to make the event a success.Â
LO6 — Demonstrate engagement with issues of global significance
Poverty is a major worldwide concern. It is all around us, particularly for those of us from densely populated nations like India. Participating in such events causes us to gain appreciation for the impoverished individuals who support us on a daily basis but don’t get enough recognition for it.
LO7 – Recognize and consider the ethics of choices and actions
My parents instilled in me the value of showing gratitude to those that support and work for you throughout your life. I was inspired to take part in this event by what I had learned, and I am grateful to the school’s support team for always being there to help. They have been by my side for around four years, supporting me during this time. I felt compelled to express my gratitude to them for their unwavering support and efficient running of the school system.Â
