In the past year I played several basketball tournaments, like, Khelo India, Khel mahakumbh, ISSO nationals, and FS cup. These tournaments have given me the opportunity to play against different teams with different skill sets. I have learned a lot in each of these tournaments.
LO1 – Identify own strengths and develop areas for growth.
For me to perform well in the tournament, I need to first recognise my strengths and weakness. Being aware of my own game is extremely important so that I can become an asset for my team. For example I needed to work more on my drive ins and increase the accuracy of my passes, I practiced passing drills so that while playing I cam implement thats. Also one of my weakness is that I don’t play good at the baseline, I avoid playing that position so that my team isn’t penalised. My strength is controlling and shooting, while in a match I make sure that I play that position, I try to convert my shots in order to increase the score. For example during khel mahakumbh played shooting guard, since my shooting accuracy was good I was able to score more points.
LO5 – Demonstrate skills and benefits of working collaboratively.
Team coordination is very important in basketball, especially during tournaments like ISSO, where different IB schools all over India come to play, it has a lot of competition and it is very important for us to know each other’s game so that we can improve passing and beat the defence, and score more baskets. We need to understand each other and communicate properly through eye contact. For example during Khel mahakumbh we had good competition for the finals, but because we had good collaboration we were able to win.
In conclusion, sports tournaments require me to challenge myself, identify my strengths and weakness, work on them and try my best to be a good player for my team. After every tournament we create a stronger bond with our teammates, this is where we need to work collaboratively and try our best to give a tough fight to the opponent teams.
