I would say organising the G12 Farewell was one of the major events that happened in my life this year.It was filled with emotions,new experiences and I would say definitely pushed me out of my comfort zone.I was the leader of the dance segment where I choreographed and taught dance of almost 20+ mins to a lot of people.

To begin with, I would say I planned and initiated almost everything since I was heading the dance team.(LOI 3) From sending invites and reminders to choosing songs and choreographing, planning each and everything beforehand in accordance to time and scheduling meetings definitely brought my organisation skills which I didn’t know I had.

Also,the whole process was quite challenging because of many reasons.(LOI 2)Firstly managing so many people of my own age who typically don’t listen to anyone was a daunting task.It was hard for me to teach dance,especially to the non-dancers.Moreover,brining everybody on my team on the same page was also difficult since everybody had different perspectives.

Therefore,maninting persistence was very crucial for me in order to successfully execute this event.(LOI 4) Since I wanted to prove to myself and justify my passion for dance I worked extremely hard and even if there were times when I felt like quitting I reminded myself of how far I’ve come from the shy quiet girl that once used to be.I remember this one instance which especially kept me going. My teacher in- charge said to me that “I am very proud of you,and I think to myself if she can manage so many kids,so many things together then why can’t I…and you inspire me.” At that moment I realised everything was worth it and my commitment was even stronger than before.

This experience definitely developed my team management and leadership skills.(LOI 5,2) Communicating tasks to my teammates and scheduling meetings with teachers,seeking approval from the event management teams involved a lot of collaboration skills.It was really hard to bring all the parties on the same page but I managed to do it.Sure–misunderstandings and conflicts did occur but I eventually overcame it.Also,some teammates and teachers were extremely sweet and understanding which made me really happy and kept me going.

Overall organising the G12 farewell bought a lot of joy to me since I was able to live my dream of choreographing and teaching dance.Even though the whole process was a rough path in the end, it didn’t feel like it because I was doing what I loved and the event turned out incredible.I loved when people truly appreciated me for the hard work that I’ve put in and admired the dance.
