For the support staff of our school, grade 11 and 12 students organised a day full of fun games and entertainment like musical chairs, a dance performance, tug of war, etc as a way to express our gratitude for their hard work and service all year long. I participated in the dance performance along with my friends. Together, we curated an upbeat playlist of songs that they would enjoy dance performances for.

LO 1:Identify your own strengths and develop areas for personal growth.
It was a lot of fun to volunteer at this event and I picked up new skills like task management and interpersonal communication. As I contributed to directing personnel through the event and attending to their needs by elucidating games and activities, I was able to gain more knowledge and develop my abilities. It provided me with a fantastic opportunity to hone my managerial abilities.

LO6:Demonstrate engagement with issues of global significance.
Putting on an appreciation celebration for the school’s support staff brings attention to the sometimes-overlooked efforts made by maintenance workers, cafeteria employees, security guards, and cleaners. This is in line with the IBDP CAS learning objective “Demonstrate engagement with issues of global significance,” which focusses on social justice, fair treatment, and dignity—global issues that affect workplaces everywhere. Students encourage inclusivity and respect by celebrating their efforts with speeches, presents, or a special dinner, reaffirming the significance of appreciating each and every member of a community. Students are inspired to promote fair treatment and appreciation in society as a result of this event, which cultivates empathy, thankfulness, and awareness.

LO 7: Recognise and consider the ethics of choices and actions
The purpose of the event was to show gratitude to the staff for their years of hard work in creating a fun and memorable school environment. The fact that employees were taking a break from their busy schedules to unwind and enjoy the event made the volunteers and event organisers even happier and more appreciative. The day was made as delightful as possible by both students.
