In the course, we visited Mokamal in the month December to live with more rural local lifestyle for almost a week. Firstly, we set forth our main objective to be wholehearted integration in the community and being able to peek into the life of the tribe members. The whole journey included several activities which included factory visits as well as schools and exploration of the woods. It was established that, in opposite to urban lifestyle, the majority families in rural settlements kept a cow and planted their own fields. Moreover we found out about the mobility of farmers traveling for months just to go, during the sugarcane harvest and earning between 30 thousand to 40 thousand rupees .

I was able to get familiar with a minimalist way of life of villagers, their resourcefulness in reaching the outstanding results with no appropriate devices, and their farming soap. Thus, I gained the practical skills like harvesting crops, processing rice, and grinding flour using traditional methods.

LO1:

It was noted that I am efficient in communication, especially when interacting with the kids, by way of example, I handled the situation during our visit to the local school where I interacted with the kids, taught them games and made the place conducive where they were free to express themselves. Nevertheless, during that volunteering, I suddenly became aware of the need to improve my Gujarati, actually, it was not easy for me to speak Gujarati, because children I worked with would mainly speak in Gujarati and I had limitations of using Gujarati.

LO2

I found interacting in Gujarati a hard task which my little capability kept me from, altering the direct relationships with the local populace who talk the language. However, the trek also turned out to be really challenging, and it appears to me like I was the slowest member of the team, constantly striving to catch up.

LO5

We have tried out a great collaborative skill of constructing the bamboo basket not more than an hour through the team. I have also noticed that teamwork was crucial as we were preparing meals for children at schools and leads to a good display of the cooperative efforts within failing to achieve results.

LO6

This worldwide matter of being poor caused due to the migrations on seasonal basis brought all global concern. We engaged ourselves in this situation by soliciting fund for the supply of clothes, stationary and food donations to our disadvantaged neighbouring, addressing their current needs and further improve their sense of well-being.

LO7

Machinations and tactics borrowed from animal experiments are the nefarious form of biopiracy which is the problem of the indigenous farming communities at the present time. Besides, I knew customs of marriage and separation inside out, observing the community’s distinct traditions and economy practices. Moreover, this helped me in identifying the culture norms and economy components.

The conclusion of this rural immersion is that of a touching and enlightening experience which shows both the privileges I own and the hardships that are faced by rural people especially the farmers.
