As a part of our CAS project, we organized the FS got talent show for the students of grade 7 to grade 12 on 2nd of September 2023. The volunteer’s amazing talents were showcased during this talent show, which also emphasized the virtues of commitment, leadership, and teamwork. The FS Got Talent featured a wide variety of performers, including singing, dancing, poetry readings, fashion show, and musical and dance performances. Volunteers also showed their entrepreneurial spirit by setting up a thriving food area and flea market, which raised the level of enthusiasm during the event.
LO1- Identify your own strengths and develop areas for personal growth
I have never been a part of the core organizing team for such a huge event because of which one of the major development areas for personal growth for me was in crowd management skills. This was the first time I had been allotted a whole category to handle which was a bit challenging for me but with the help of my colleagues, I was able to manage it. This is something that I would look forward to develop because crowd management skills can be really useful for me in the future.
LO2- Demonstrate that challenges have been undertaken, developing new skills in the process.
All of the major planning for the event was done except the decorations and we only had 3-4 days left for the event. With only 6 volunteers we started the planning for the decorations, all we did in our free slots and playtimes was create the decorations. With only 1 day left for the event, we asked a few of our friends if they could help us in the decorations and with their help we completed all of the decorations in time. It was the day of the event and we started decorating the Y-box along with managing the participants and the audience. We faced some issues during the event like we got short of time because of which we had to skip a few energizers that we planned in between performances to keep the audience engaged and energized. But against all of the odds, the FS got talent show was finally over and we all had a lot of fun in organizing and executing the event.
LO3- Demonstrate how to initiate and plan a CAS experience.
I, along with my 3 friends organized and managed the event from planning to execution. It began a few weeks before the set date for the event. We started by planning all of the categories that the talent show should have. We decided to keep dance, musical performance, poetry, stand up comedy, fashion show in the event followed by a gourmet kitchen. After finalizing the categories, we sent a form to the students of grade 7 to grade 12 as an invitation to participate in the talent show. We asked for the sound tracks needed by each group for their dance performance, the songs that each band will play, and the food each stall will sell. We then finalized the venue as Y-Box for all of the performances, and assembly area for the gourmet kitchen and live band performance.
LO4- Show commitment to and perseverance in CAS experiences
We expected a maximum of 150 participants and a minimum of 100 participants. After a few days, we checked the form and we had around 120 entries for the event as participants. We then began emailing students according to the categories they selected and we asked for the confirmation along with the resources they will require in the event. In the start we did not get enough response to the email so we started to mail every student personally so that we don’t have any delays in the event.
LO5- Demonstrate the skills and recognize the benefits of working collaboratively.
We divided our work for a smoother and quicker management of the event where I managed the dance category, created the invitation, and managed the instruments required in musical performance. I also managed and controlled the audio, lighting and flow of the event to ensure that the event ran smoothly. Dividing our work helped us more specialized work where we all managed a specific part of the event so that there was no confusion or delays in the event. Collaborating together helped us organize and execute the event better than we imagined. This demonstrated to us that managing large-scale events like this calls for teamwork, and that collaboration is necessary for bigger accomplishments.
LO6- Demonstrate engagement with issues of global significance.
FS got talent focused more on the SDG 4- quality education. This event showed us the importance of extra curricular activities, and engaging activities for quality education. We have seen students of other schools stressed up because of the amount of workload they have. Being in grade 11, I know how difficult and stressful it is for managing our studies and dealing with the constant pressure of scoring better marks but events like FS got talent really shows how these events can reduce the stress of the students for a better quality of education.
