School trips always seemed boring to me, i only went because of my friends also going but this year, this trip was something entirely different: a rural immersion trip to Lachhakadi, where we engaged with the community, experienced the rural life, worked with them, community service.

The most challenging part for me was to wake up early to do activities. Witnessing the farm’s struggle with water conservation highlighted the very real challenges of sustainable agriculture. We interacted with families who were helped by the government under specific circumstances, shared dinner with them. We also had many fun activities such as grappling, rock climbing and my most favorite activity was the wilderness trekking, all them pushed me physically and drained me mentally, but with my friends while trekking on the mountain was very memorable also we got to embrace nature in the night, we witnessed a beautiful meteor shower, lying across the ground with blankets and pillows. This rural immersion was about me appreciating nature, embracing the rural life, stepping out of my comfort zone, learning the ways of sustainability and also developing new skills. It was fun.

The trip pushed me beyond my comfort zone and helped me develop new skills. Waking up early to work on the farm and engaging in unfamiliar tasks like planting seeds and identifying insects required adaptability and resilience. Through perseverance and determination, I learned practical skills such as farming techniques and insect identification, expanding my knowledge beyond the classroom. Additionally, participating in physically demanding activities like grappling, rock climbing, and trekking in the wilderness challenged me physically, revealing my strengths and weaknesses and fostering personal growth.

LO4 – [Show commitment to and perseverance in CAS experiences]

I demonstrated a strong commitment to the rural immersion experience, showing perseverance in the face of challenges. Despite the early mornings and physically demanding tasks, I remained dedicated to the mission of the trip, eager to learn and contribute to the community. Whether it was working on the farm, helping with water conservation efforts, or engaging in extracurricular activities like grappling and rock climbing, I approached each task with enthusiasm and determination, showcasing my commitment to the CAS (Creativity, Activity, Service) experience and my willingness to persevere through obstacles.

LO5 – [Demonstrate the skills and recognize the benefits of working collaboratively]

There were several instances in which we worked collaboratively like planting seeds on the farm, assisting with pickle food packaging, helping workers, or engaging in community service activities at the village school, I recognized the importance of collaboration in achieving common goals. By working together, we leveraged each other’s strengths, shared responsibilities, and achieved greater impact, demonstrating the value of teamwork in addressing global challenges and making a positive difference in the community.

LO7 – [Recognize and consider the ethics of choices and actions]

Witnessing the farm’s struggle with water conservation raised awareness about the ethical implications of resource management and environmental sustainability. Additionally, engaging with the local community and assisting with educational initiatives at the village school sparked discussions about ethical responsibilities and social justice. By reflecting on these experiences, I gained a deeper understanding of the ethical considerations inherent in addressing global issues and the importance of making informed and ethical choices in all aspects of life.
