I had completed an hybrid online-offline course on fundamentals of networking which is the very first step in the field of cybersecurity. Taking the Mile2 online networking fundamentals course was a critical step in my path to a career in cybersecurity. This experience allowed me to identify my strengths, learn new skills. In this course I had learned many things including practicals needed to identify flow of network packets, network monitoring tools, packet filtering etc.
LO1 – Identify own strengths and develop areas for growth
Completing the Mile2 online course helped me identify my strengths in problem solving, critical thinking, and technical aptitude. As I progressed through the course material and participated in practical exercises, I realized where I excelled and where I needed to improve. This self-assessment allowed me to focus on improving my networking fundamentals, such as understanding protocols, configuring network devices, and troubleshooting connectivity issues. Furthermore, I recognized the significance of continuous learning and staying current on emerging trends and technologies in the field of cybersecurity.
LO2 – Demonstrate that challenges have been undertaken, developing new skills
Undertaking the Mile2 online course presented various challenges that required me to develop new skills and adapt to unfamiliar concepts. From grappling with complex networking protocols to mastering the configuration of network devices, each challenge provided an opportunity for growth. By approaching these challenges with determination and resilience, I honed my technical skills and expanded my understanding of cybersecurity principles. Moreover, engaging with real-world scenarios and practical exercises allowed me to apply theoretical knowledge to practical situations, thereby enhancing my problem-solving abilities and critical thinking skills. At the end I was able to pass the certified examination with flying colors and achieved a total of 88%.
LO3 – Initiate and plan a CAS experience
Enrolling in the Mile2 online course was a proactive step in initiating and planning an experience centered around cybersecurity education. Recognizing the importance of cybersecurity in today’s digital society, I took the initiative to seek out relevant courses and resources to expand my knowledge and skill set. By carefully planning my study schedule and allocating time for coursework and practical exercises, I ensured that I maximized the benefits of the online learning experience, through this I was able to implement my time management skills to work out proper schedule to divide my time in completing this course which includes going through coursebook, watching videos, attending offline practicals on weekends and giving practise tests. Moreover, I actively sought out opportunities to apply my newfound knowledge in real-world scenarios, whether through personal projects or collaborative initiatives with peers.
LO4 – Show perseverance and commitment in CAS experience
Completing the Mile2 online course required perseverance and dedication as I worked through difficult concepts and coursework. Despite obstacles and setbacks along the way, I remained committed to achieving my objectives and expanding my knowledge of cybersecurity fundamentals. Whether it was setting aside extra time to review difficult concepts or looking for additional resources for clarification, I approached each challenge with a firm determination to succeed. By demonstrating perseverance and commitment throughout my CAS experience, I not only broadened my cybersecurity knowledge and skills, but also developed a strong work ethic and a mindset of continuous improvement.
