Global Odyssey was my CAS project, I was assigned the role of team leader for the decor team. It is an event organized by DP Business Management and Economics teachers every year. This event is like a fair organized by the students by placing stalls of different categories like, food, fun and fashion with band performances to apply their concept of business management into real life. My role was to make the event look appealing. The theme we chose for the event was Cherry Blossom and this year the event was held on Valentines day.
LO2 – Demonstrate that challenges have been undertaken, developing new skills.
Global Odyssey gave an opportunity to develop new skills, being a decor leader I’ve developed leadership skills through this one month journey. Being a leader takes a lot from you because handling and dividing tasks to the team members and also focusing on the work that is done efficiently or not was too chaotic. But gradually we prepared every piece of decor in a span of 1 month with a bit of struggle and lots of fun. As a decor head, for each and every concern I was supposed to consult the supervisor whether it is for resources or for approving decor ideas which also improved my communication skills. Communication skills have always been a helping hand as better communication makes the work easy, by the end of this event I was able to communicate better than I used to do.
LO3 – Initiate and plan a CAS experience
This event was being organized for one month under the guidance of teachers. The Cherry Blossom theme was not bad that it couldn’t work but actually the decoration turned out into something that wasn’t expected. 2 of us were in charge of the decor team and were assigned to look after everything. Apart from the project, Global Odyssey also gave an opportunity to showcase the existing skills and improve it and shape it in a much better way, to let my creativity flow and make the decor look beautiful. During the preparation span, I faced challenges but it was also easy to overcome it and help the team members in the best possible way.
LO4 – Show perseverance and commitment in CAS experience
Despite the fact that we worked collaboratively, but as part of my CAS project I was committed towards the work and role assigned to me and even after facing difficulties and disagreements pertaining to the ideas, my team members and I persisted and remained committed towards are work in order to make this event a hit and fulfilled the expectations of all the members of Senior school which they had from the decor team. This event showed us that committing to our work takes a lot from within but at the end it is a joyful experience to see everything all set that you’ve worked hard for.
LO5 – Demonstrate skills and benefits of working collaboratively
Working collaboratively throughout this event, we managed to work efficiently and collaborative work made the job easy so that we can complete the decor and fulfill the requirements of decoration. Overcoming challenges would be resolved by the collaborative work. Working together is beneficial for each and everyone because it reduces the work of an individual as the work is done with the help of each other’s help.
LO7 – Recognize and consider the ethics of choices and actions
During this CAS project, being ethical was to be responsible for the work being done, and complete the task without anyone’s constant supervision. For this event we had a teacher incharge who guided us in a better way and I was supposed to keep her in loop for whatever we do as a decor team but I developed that ability to handle things without a mentor and look after everything whether the work is done or not in her absence. Ethical choices and actions like being responsible, efficient and fairness were recognized during this one month preparation.
