I took part in a 2 day trek program to Igatpuri in Maharashtra, a place known for its high mountains and amazing scenery. I took part in this for the Activity and Service components of CAS and explored the wonders of treking, the amazing views, the difficulties finishing the trek properly, as well as interacting with the local school children and helping clean the dam nearby. All of these activities led to a thrilling and extremely enjoyable experience that helped me explore a lot about my interests as well.
LO2 – Demonstrate that challenges have been undertaken, developing new skills in the process
The trek program kicked off with a shorter trek as a warm-up, getting us ready for the main event the next day. Scaling the rugged terrain, I embraced the challenge, pushing myself to conquer each incline and obstacle. The following day, we embarked on a longer trek to the top of a small mountain. It was a grueling journey, but with determination and perseverance, I reached the summit, reveling in the breathtaking views and the sense of accomplishment that washed over me. These treks tested my physical endurance and mental resilience, allowing me to develop new skills and overcome personal obstacles along the way.
LO6 – Demonstrate engagement with issues of global significance.
Interacting with the local school children was a highlight of the trip. Engaging in playful games and conversations, we forged meaningful connections with the young students, gaining insights into their daily lives and experiences. Through these interactions, I became more aware of the challenges faced by rural communities and the importance of education and empowerment in addressing global issues such as poverty and inequality. It was a humbling experience that broadened my perspective and inspired me to take action towards positive change.
LO7 – Recognize and consider the ethics of choices and actions.
One of the most impactful moments of the trip was the dam cleanup activity. As we worked together to clear away litter and debris from the dam area, I took on the challenge of tackling the more difficult and hazardous sections. Drawing on my climbing skills, I navigated treacherous terrain to reach areas that were heavily littered but often overlooked. It was a physically demanding task, but knowing that my efforts were making a tangible difference in preserving the environment filled me with a sense of pride and responsibility. This experience reinforced the importance of ethical decision-making and the need to consider the consequences of our actions on both local communities and the natural world.
Skills developed:-
Risk-taker: Throughout the trek program, I embraced challenges, whether navigating steep trails or tackling hazardous sections during the dam cleanup. My willingness to take risks led to personal growth and self-discovery.
Communicator: Interacting with local school children honed my communication skills. Despite language barriers, I fostered meaningful connections through gestures, smiles, and shared experiences.
Problem-solver: During the dam cleanup, I utilized my problem-solving skills to address challenges and safely remove debris from treacherous terrain. My approach led to a positive impact on the environment and ensured the safety of myself and others.
Conclusion
In conclusion, my two-day trek program to Igatpuri was an unforgettable adventure that taught me valuable lessons in resilience, empathy, and environmental stewardship. From challenging treks to meaningful interactions with the local community, each moment was an opportunity for personal growth and reflection. As I reflect on my journey, I’m grateful for the experiences that have shaped me and inspired me to continue exploring, learning, and making a positive impact in the world around me.
