Animal shelter was a program held outside the school at Nature club on every weekend.
I’ve always been afraid of animals and didn’t get any chance to overcome that. This opportunity of taking care and feeding animals at Nature club helped me overcome my fear.
In this duration, we were required to feed animals and birds, clean up the cages of pigeons, and take care of them gently and also to cut vegetables for them.

L1: Identifying Strengths and Developing Areas for Growth
I was hesitating on the first day of Animal shelter as I am always scared of animals. Here we were asked to divide the tasks like chopping vegetables, cleaning up the water bowls of animals and birds and giving them their food on time. When I was asked to go into the cages of animals to give them food I was so scared because I had never done something like that. I wasn’t ready to go into the cage but to develop that courage so that I can easily complete my task without any fear. At first glance it was a bit difficult for me to go there but once i did it I could easily go into the other cages. That is where I overcame my fear of animals when I was sent to different cages with one supervisor.

L4: Perseverance and Commitment in CAS Experience
Commitment in the experience was seen when we had to complete the sessions of 2 hours. From our busy schedule, to complete these sessions we had to make time for this experience so that we can complete our 4 weekend sessions while managing our submission deadlines and time for other subjects. This shows the true perseverance and commitment of ourselves in this experience which helped us in achieving our goal. Also taught us the importance of staying resilient and dedicated, even when faced with obstacles, fostering a sense of responsibility and compassion towards the welfare of animals in need.

L5: Skills and Benefits of Working Collaboratively
Working collaboratively in feeding and taking care at animal shelters have benefits, because there we had to do teamwork so that we can complete the expected task within the time.
Dividing tasks amongst students like, chopping vegetables, cleaning cage, refilling water and food containers needed communication and coordination to streamline the feeding routines. By working together we could easily do the needful as we all focused to work on the common goal.

L6: Engagement with Global Issues of Significance
We came through a global issue faced by life on land which is also a part of sustainable development goals that are expected to be solved by 2030. Through this program at an animal shelter we came to know that there are many rescued animals who are being affected by human actions which disrupt their life in one or the other aspects. There we saw many cases of animals who were beaten up for doing nothing by humans. The experience emphasized our interconnectedness with the global community and the universal values of empathy, kindness, and respect for all creatures

In conclusion, our CAS experience of feeding and caring for animals at the animal shelter has been a fascinating exploration of empathy, responsibility, and cooperation. We not only helped stray animals by participating in this experience, but we also helped ourselves grow in terms of understanding and empathy for the world around us.
