Balmela is an event organized in our school which aims to give a day full of fun activities for underprivileged kids. In this event there are multiple activities organized by volunteers where kids get to learn new skills such as some particular sport or crucial life skills such as physical skills and social skills participating in group activities for creativity skills. Students get to choose what they want to participate in such as sports where they can be involved in different physical activities and also other games, dance, visual arts and many other such activities. I chose to volunteer in sport activities where I made them do various activities such as tire dragging and tug of war.
LO1 – Identify your own strengths and develop areas for the growth sector.
During this event as I was working in a team it was very important to divide our roles as per our strengths and manage the activities properly controlling the kids. We demonstrated our leadership skills and team management strength to divide our tasks and work upon our strengths to make the kids learn better.
LO3 – Initiate and plan a CAS experience
The execution of bal mela required some planning about what activities do we want to make the kids do and about the venues and multiple other things. In our group we also had to plan how we will make the kids do the activity and how will we manage it well which required enough pre planning to make sure that the event is successful.
LO5 – Demonstrate Skills and benefits of Working Collaboratively
As we had to work in a group of four so that we are able to manage the kids well but also working in a group helped us with everyone having their own strengths which helps in dividing roles and working much better. Teamwork helped us achieve the task and help the kids learn new skills better.
LO6 – Engagement of Issues with Global Significance
The underprivileged kids often do not have access to quality education because of which they are not able to learn 21st century skills such as creativity, IT, social skills and physical skills which are very much required for everyone’s future. Through the event of bal mela the underprivileged kids get an opportunity to learn these new skills and while I was volunteering in sports I was able to help people learn some new physical and social skills about how to collaborate and coordinate with your team.
I demonstrated the learn profile Reflective throughout the experience as I was reflecting upon my skills and knowledge which I have gained through PS classes in football and was reflecting all my knowledge gained to help the kids learn and understand the football game better.
