Pi Day is celebrated on 14th March because that was the day when Pi was invented. Hence, the senior school mathematics team decided to celebrate it by decorations, activities and fun games. There were various stalls created by all of us where some chose games, some chose to sell food and some chose to work with photobooth and etc. Pi day did help me with social skills and self management skills as this experience involved working with people around the grade and helping each other by coming up with games, entertainment, etc. 

LO1 – Identify own strengths and develop areas of growth 

This CAS experience did help me identify my strengths and how I could reflect on it as well. I was never interested in mathematics as a subject nor I wanted to take part in this experience although, getting out of my comfort zone and planning a whole day dedicated to Pi day was really shocking for me. Moreover, in the process I developed various areas of growth as well such as, getting to know new games such as tower of Hanoi, Speed and Black Jack which were also the activities that we made others play. 

LO4 – Show perseverance and commitment in CAS experience  

The initiative of taking part for Pi Day was willingly done by me to showcase the joy, enthusiasm and commitment I have for the experience. Furthermore, I was also engaged in the hard work and help required for other activities such as decor, photo booth, ideas for food items etc. 

LO5 – Demonstrate skills and benefits of working collaboratively 

Through this experience I developed social skills, self management skills and creative thinking skills. Social skills being quite obvious as I was working with my grade mates and coming up with creative and engaging games. Moreover, in this process I also demonstrated creative thinking skills as I wanted to come up with activities that people actually enjoy and are unique, rather than games that are already known by people. My creativity also came into play when I was suggesting ideas for social media, decor etc. And lastly, self management skills, there were limited people who’d opted for Pi day we had to make sure that nothing is missed out. As a result we had to work in early ins, and in some slots as well so that the assigned work is completed on time such as preparing charts for our stall, making sure that we have all the necessary resources required for activities etc. 

Therefore, this experience checks the boxes of creativity and activity and provides me with a platform that allows me to interact with people and showcasing our knowledge of mathematics in a fun and creative manner.
