Event Date: 23rd September 2023

Kalakriti, an inter school art competition hosted by Fountainhead school, included students from different schools in Surat to participate in competitions such as dance,drama,rangoli,vocals,etc.

I was assigned to volunteer for rangoli competition where I had to manage the venue, ensure that the competition goes smoothly, coordinate with participants there, coordinate with the teacher in charge, take the attendance of the participants, draw the markings, announce the rules, ensure that breach of the rules is not done by participants, helping out the judge, writing names on certificates and lastly solving any issues that occur in the event. There were many problems that I encountered like few participants did not come, few schools had two groups coming, the rules were not informed to them earlier like stencils not being allowed,etc. Though towards the end the event started running smoothly. But one more challenge came up which was the certificates. Few names were printed incorrectly, few students did not come up and hence other students came on behalf of them and their certificates were not printed which resulted in school sending them out certificates later. These all made me understand the bits of an event, the challenges,communication and how to deal with these challenges. And not to forget, external environment did disturb the participants a lot.

LO2: Demonstrate that challenges have been undertaken, developing new skills in the process

As I had never organised kalakriti before, I was not aware of the event flow and was also not aware of whom to communicate with and how to handle the situation. This event allowed me to demonstrate management skills and problem solving skills. Which led me to understand how to tackle these situations with a positive attitude and not complaining.

LO5:Demonstrate that skills and recognize the benefits of working collaboratively

The main challenge I face is working with others but this time I did not face any such issue. In fact this time working collaboratively made the event run more smoothly as it became easy to coordinate. I tried my best to demonstrate collaboration skills with the teacher in charge and other volunteers both by ensuring that no one of us faces issues. Moreover, the teacher incharge was very cooperative and did not feel like she was assigning roles to me but felt like she was guiding me through the event.
