Math club named “Vertex Venture” was an initiative taken up by my fellow friend who are Math enthusiasts, which I participated in. This club included many things like doing math with fun quizzes, games and worksheets which helped me to study more in depth concepts in maths which helped me in the future which helped me to build my confidence and enhance my creativity and critical thinking skills to solve the question. Creativity, is one of the most important skill which can help in solving complex maths questions easily. Because if we are creative we can find multiple ways of solving the same question as there are multiple ways in solving a math question. I felt more confident after joining this club and this helped me improve my maths to a greater extent and I do not regret joining this club “Vertex Venture”. I never felt this good in solving math questions in my life and I enjoyed every movement that I had have at the club.
LO1: Identify own strengths and develop areas for growth:
In the club, I came to know that solving complex sums without a calculator was one of my weaknesses, the area in which I need to improve. This made me realise that solving complex math solutions without a calculator is a skill that I needed to improve and was a challenge to me. While solving this sums I was not able to solve the question under time-limit and it took me a lot of time to solve the question which made me nervous and I got stressed out in solving for the same. So by dealing with this pressure was one of the skills that I needed to improve. Furthermore, one of my strengths is that even if I am not able to solve the problem I was confident that with some communication skills and asking doubt I was able to solve the problem and was able to learn new techniques to solve the questions.
LO2: Demonstrate that challenges have been undertaken, developing new skill in the process:
I always fear and love math at the same time. And I always feel conscious when speaking or asking doubts in front of many students, I also felt very anxious and low confident when there were team games at the Math club which required quick problem solving. This was one of my biggest challenges, because I usually in general get very anxious and do not say anything in front of many people. So I had to overcome this issue because this will help not only in math but it will also help me socialise. I would say that to some extent I was able to solve this issue. By adapting this challenge I was able to develop my perseverance skills, and even learned how to motivate myself in the face of such difficulties.
To recapitulate, this club was an extraordinary and important experience that I have ever had in my entire life, because this club not only help me improve in maths and hone my perseverance. This club made me overcome the fear of maths to a certain extent, and it also motivates me to put in efforts and improve my maths. Apart from this, I was able to learn several IB Learner Profile attributes some of them are “Thinker”, because it requires critical thinking while solving complex maths problems. Hence, I can say that Math Club was one of the best memories that I have ever had in my entire journey in FS.
