Among the CAS project activities, the school took charge of a cross-country event, whereby the runners needed to run throughout the round to attain their CAS credentials. There were three events in this service: The first one, which covered almost 3km, took me about 14 minutes to finish. Next was a 1.5km jog where pink powder was placed on us for the challenge to keep going. It was fun as we covered our body with the pink powder including back of our shirts that would come off by the time we reached the finish line. The same pattern of the next 2 events was the way that they felt as well with a length of a 5km each.
LO1 – Identify own strengths and develop areas for growth:Â
Participating in this cross-country marathon allowed me to gain a clearer understanding of my physical abilities and limitations. While I discovered that endurance over long distances and maintaining a steady pace are strengths of mine, the experience also highlighted areas for improvement. In particular, I recognized that I need to work on my breathing technique and running form during future training sessions. Receiving constructive feedback on how to enhance my performance will be crucial for achieving new goals. This experience prompted me to reflect critically on myself, fostering ongoing self-improvement.
LO2 – Demonstrate that challenges have been undertaken, developing new skills:
In training for and completing this marathon, I pushed myself beyond what I previously thought possible. Initially, the idea of running distances like 5km felt daunting and unfamiliar, but it showed me that I possess inner strength when I stay determined. I also enhanced my time management and planning skills by balancing my running schedule with other commitments. Regularly confronting doubts and fatigue helped me build mental resilience alongside physical stamina. This challenge fostered grit and strengthened my belief in my abilities, while also expanding my skill set for future goals and personal growth.
LO4 – Show perseverance and commitment in CAS experience:
Getting through the weeks of preparation and multiple runs required a lot of self-motivation, especially on days when my enthusiasm dipped. However, witnessing my progress and finding joy in completing each run inspired me to give my best effort in every session. Finishing this long personal challenge showed me that with focus and determination, I can achieve what initially seems impossible. My commitment to self-improvement through this experience demonstrates that hard work can lead to significant personal growth. This lesson will stay with me as I take on future CAS experiences and beyond.
In conclusion, this cross-country marathon provided invaluable life lessons that will benefit me long after school. I take pride in my perseverance, value the time management skills I’ve developed, and feel motivated to keep challenging myself and improving. My CAS experience has fostered personal growth that I will carry with me into the future.
