Duration: 12th January to 5th October
Psychology club was a platform where our mission was to to cultivate a vibrant and inclusive community where students with an interest in psychology can deepen their understanding of the field, engage in professional development, and promote mental health awareness and support both on campus and in the wider community. For our club sessions, our goals were to teach them different research studies performed, talk about basics of psychology, make them do psychology related activities like making self identity logo etc. We also planned a guest speaker session during the club to allows students explore and dig deeper into the subject by some well certified psychologist.
LO1- Identify own strengths and develop areas for growth
By Starting the Psychology Club highlighted my strengths in communication and passion for psychology. My ability to connect with people helped me engage members and foster discussions. However, I realized I needed to improve on my session planning. Sometimes I felt they could have been more interactive. Moving forward, I aim to develop these areas while continuing to use my strengths to create an inclusive, engaging environment.
LO2- Demonstrate that challenges have been undertaken, developing new skills in the process For my CAS project, I organized a Psychology Club for teenagers, which came with several challenges that helped me develop new skills. Stepping into a leadership role required careful planning to keep discussions engaging and accessible. Managing a group, creating inclusive spaces for everyone to share ideas, and simplifying complex psychological concepts pushed me to improve my communication, organizational, and critical thinking skills. Overcoming these challenges allowed me to grow not just as a student of psychology but also as a leader and facilitator, skills I’ll carry with me in the future.
LO3- Demonstrate how to initiate and plan a CAS experience For my Psychology Club CAS project, I initiated and planned the whole club from talking to the school leaders till sending weekly reminders for every session. I created a detailed proposal outlining the club’s structure, including discussion topics, activities, and guest speakers. I coordinated logistics by securing permissions, scheduling meetings, and recruiting a core team to assist with event management and communication. Through effective collaboration and organization, I successfully launched the Psychology Club, providing a valuable space for participants to engage in discussions that enhance their psychological literacy and well-being.
LO4- Show commitment to and perseverance in CAS experiences Starting the Psychology Club has been a journey of commitment and perseverance from Day 1. In the early stages, I encountered challenges, particularly with managing time to plan sessions with studies but instead of giving up, I tried managing my activities well. I always made sure that I did not miss conducting any sessions just for my easiness. Through this experience, I’ve learned the importance of resilience in leadership. My commitment to the club has enhanced my communication skills and made me learn a lot of things. Ultimately, this journey has shown me that with dedication and perseverance, we can create meaningful spaces for growth and connection.
LO5 – Demonstrate the skills and recognize the benefits of working collaboratively Working collaboratively has enhanced my leadership skills. I’ve learned how to delegate responsibilities effectively, ensuring that the workload is balanced and that everyone is involved. It has also helped me understand that every person you work with is not always as you expect them to be. Working diligently. Therefore, working with my peer it made me learn how to deal with different types of people. It kind of taught me a small life skill. However, working collaboratively can help divide your work load.
LO7- Recognize and consider the ethics of choices and actions Leading the Psychology Club has made me think carefully about ethics. We discuss sensitive topics, so I ensure confidentiality and respect for all opinions. I also use reliable sources to avoid spreading misinformation, and I make sure that participation is always voluntary and the participants are not forced to answer. This experience has shown me how important ethical choices are in creating a safe, supportive space for everyone.
