Food Donation Project(C,A,S)

I chose food donation as the subject for my CAS project. Really, it’s an activity of utmost importance in reducing hunger and preventing loss in food. I got to experience an outside-of-school setup, trying something I’ve never attempted before and certainly getting out of my comfort zone. This initiative allowed me to explore all the strands of CAS: creativity, activity, and service, meeting four key learning outcomes : perseverance and commitment (LO4), collaborative skills (LO5), engagement with global issues (LO6), and ethics in decision-making (LO7). Here’s how my journey through this meaningful experience turned out.

LO4 – Show perseverance and commitment in CAS experience
So many instances made me want to give up on the project. It was too much at times, especially when transportation failed or when someone promised to get back in touch and never did. I remembered how it could change people’s lives a lot and pressed on with resilience. Regular follow-ups with donors and keeping track of logistics eventually became routine. This experience clearly taught me that true commitment cannot be just limited to the thrill of the beginning; it’s about staying the course when things get tough.

LO5 – Demonstrate skills and benefits of working collaboratively.
This project has been nothing if not collaborative; I have worked with a great number of people ranging from my fellow peers, business owners within the local community, and volunteers from the same neighborhood. It was indispensable to utilize the input of every individual to achieve the success of the campaign. I learned the effective ways to make communication on the goals, to delegate duties and ascertain that everyone is on one page with the aim. Through the joint effort, I realized that accomplishing this something huge can only be made possible if individuals pitch in with their strength. It was not only time saving but also brought about a shared sense of purpose and unity to the team.

LO6 – Engagement with Issues of Global Significance
Global issues I have been affected by are hunger and food wastage that affect millions of people worldwide. This project made me feel connected to a broader movement whose mission is geared towards the solution of these problems. If one is realized the dimensions of food insecurity at the global level then he or she is motivated enough to take local action because he or she will know that the smallest effort is worthwhile for a larger cause. This project makes me realize how individual actions multiplied can really bring about significant impact. It also inspired me to think of how I can continue to be part of the solution both now and in the future.

LO7 – Recognize and Reflect on the Ethics of Options and Actions
In this project, I constantly reminded myself of the ethical implications of every choice that I have made. For example, when selecting food donations; it was important to keep in mind the dignity of and preferences of the recipients. I then recognized that this is not just giving away something I no longer need, but quality items that show respect for what they need or value. This ethical consideration made decisions and actions ensure that our efforts were not just helpful but respectful.

It is really an evolving food donation project; I was allowed to show creativity, exercise, and give while learning more about the issues in this world and how we treat making good ethical decisions. It helped me figure out how to persevere, to be a team player, and to consider who I affect through what I do. Most important of all, it taught me that even the smallest actions with compassion and with a sense of responsibility can start a ripple in changing the world.
