During the September month, I participated in a 2 day trek program to Igatpuri, Maharashtra. The trek was challenging but rewarding , as we navigated through mountains and breathtaking landscapes. It was a great opportunity to disconnect from the hustle of city life and immerse myself in nature. This trip helped develop a deeper sense of self-reliance and resilience. The main purpose of the trip was to have a trek (1 short and 1 long) while also going to clean nearby dams and visiting a local school to interact with the students and learn about their lifestyle. All this experience allowed me to appreciate the environmental and community engagement.
LO2-Demonstrate that challenges have been undertaken, developing new skills in the process
The two-day trek in Igatpuri, Maharashtra, came with several challenges that required me to develop new skills. Navigating through steep, uneven land demanded physical perseverance and quick decision-making to ensure safety. One key challenge was managing the long trek, which tested both my stamina and mental focus, I also developed better teamwork and communication skills as we had to coordinate with my peers to keep the group together and ensure that no one was left behind. Moreover, cleaning the nearby dams required problem-solving and critical thinking skills, as we figured out different ways to gather and dispose of waste in an efficient manner. Each of these challenges pushed me out of my comfort zone, enhancing my ability to adapt and persevere in unfamiliar and physically demanding situations.
LO4:Show commitment to and perseverance in CAS experience
As the trek was physically demanding, and there were moments when exhaustion made us think to take shortcuts or slow down. However, I remained committed to completing both the short and long treks, knowing that perseverance was essential to fully experiencing this journey to the fullest, The unpredictable rain and weather conditions, and slippery rocks and muddy paths, added an extra layer of difficulty, but I stayed focused on the goal and kept pushing forward. Visiting the local school and helping clean the dams also required consistent effort, especially when dealing with time constraints and physical exhaustion from the trek. Through this experience, I learnt that true commitment involves staying focused even when things get tough, and the satisfaction of completing the journey was well worth the effort with great views of mountains.
LO7: Recognise and Consider the Ethics of Choices and Actions
This trek experience also made me reflect on the ethical considerations of our actions toward both the environment and the local community. Cleaning the dams highlighted the importance of environmental changes, reinforcing the need to actively protect and maintain natural resources. It also made me think about how personal responsibility plays a role in tackling larger environmental issues. Furthermore, visiting the local school required empathy and respect toward the students and their way of life. It was essential to engage with them thoughtfully, ensuring that our interactions were meaningful and respectful, without imposing our perspectives or disrupting their routine. This experience broadened my understanding of how our actions can impact both nature and people, encouraging me to be mindful of the choices I make and their consequences on the environment and communities I engage with.
