Taking on the role of operating the Accounts Club has been an incredible experience of personal and professional growth. It has allowed me to explore my passion for business and finance while also developing new skills and pushing myself to overcome challenges. Reflecting on this journey through the CAS framework has given me valuable insights into my strengths, areas for growth, and the importance of collaboration and perseverance.
Identifying My Strengths and Areas for Growth (L1)
From the outset, I recognized my strength in organizational skills and problem-solving. Running the Accounts Club required meticulous planning—whether it was managing finances, organizing activities, or ensuring everyone was on the same page. However, I also discovered areas for improvement. One key challenge was managing my time efficiently, especially when balancing the demands of the club with my academic responsibilities. This experience has encouraged me to work on better time management and prioritize effectively to maintain balance.
Challenges Undertaken and New Skills Developed (L2)
One of the most significant challenges I faced was keeping members engaged and ensuring the activities we planned were both educational and enjoyable. This required me to step out of my comfort zone and think creatively to come up with ideas that would appeal to a wide range of students. I developed new skills in event planning and public speaking, as I often had to present our plans to the group. Additionally, learning to adapt to unexpected changes, such as last-minute shifts in schedules or plans, taught me to be more flexible and resilient in the face of uncertainty.
Initiating and Planning the Accounts Club (L3)
Initiating and planning the Accounts Club was one of the most fulfilling parts of my CAS experience. From the start, I knew I wanted to create a space where students could develop financial literacy and practical business skills. Planning this experience involved setting clear goals, creating a structured timeline, and coordinating with teachers and students to ensure everything ran smoothly.
The first step was identifying the key objectives of the club—educating students on basic accounting principles, budgeting, and finance management. I created a plan outlining the activities and workshops we would hold, from introductory sessions to hands-on projects where members could apply what they learned.
Demonstrating Perseverance and Commitment (L4)
Operating the Accounts Club was not without its tough moments. There were times when participation was low, or projects didn’t go as planned. Despite these setbacks, I remained committed to the club’s goals. I persevered through the challenges, ensuring that activities continued, and members remained engaged. This experience taught me the importance of perseverance and showed me how rewarding it can be to stay committed to a cause even when things get tough.
Collaborative Work and Team Spirit (L5)
The success of the Accounts Club was not just about individual effort; it was deeply rooted in teamwork. Working collaboratively with fellow members was key to organizing successful activities. We had to divide tasks, rely on each other’s strengths, and provide support when challenges arose. This experience deepened my understanding of the benefits of teamwork, as we could achieve much more collectively than any of us could have managed alone. Learning to navigate different working styles also enhanced my communication and leadership skills.
