Global odyssey ( creativity + activity)

As an art student, creativity has always been my strength, so when the opportunity to join the decoration team for our school’s Global Odyssey event came up, I knew I had to be a part of it. The event gave me the chance to use my artistic abilities to transform the school venue into a visually appealing and exciting space. The experience not only allowed me to contribute to the event’s success but also pushed me to grow in many areas through various CAS learning outcomes.

LO1 – Identifying Strengths and Areas for Growth

From the beginning, I recognized my strength in creating decorative pieces that could enhance the overall look of the event. My interest in art and design gave me confidence in tackling the creative tasks assigned to me. However, I also discovered areas where I could grow. For instance, working on large-scale decorations required me to think beyond individual art pieces and consider the overall visual flow of the space. I realized that while I excel in detail-oriented work, I needed to improve my ability to think on a broader scale and align my designs with the event’s theme cohesively.

LO2 – Taking on Challenges and Developing New Skills

Being part of the decoration team wasn’t without its challenges. One of the biggest hurdles was managing time efficiently, especially as the event date approached and the pressure increased. We had to balance schoolwork with the demands of creating and assembling the decorations. I also faced challenges in working with new materials and learning techniques to make large decorative pieces sturdy and visually appealing. These obstacles helped me develop new skills, such as better time management and experimenting with new artistic techniques to meet the requirements of the event.

LO4 – Showing Perseverance and Commitment

The Global Odyssey event was a month-long project that required dedication. There were moments when things didn’t go as planned—certain designs took longer to complete, or ideas needed to be revised multiple times. Despite these setbacks, I remained committed to the project, continuously working towards making the event a success. The long hours spent painting, cutting, and assembling decorations were a testament to my perseverance. This experience reinforced the importance of sticking with a task, even when it becomes challenging, as the final results are always worth the effort.

LO5 – Collaborating Effectively as a Team

Working as part of the decoration team provided an excellent opportunity to understand the benefits of collaboration. Each team member brought their unique strengths to the table, whether it was design ideas, craftsmanship, or organizational skills. At times, there were differing opinions on how to approach the decorations, but through effective communication and compromise, we were able to find common ground and work together smoothly. The experience highlighted how collaboration leads to better results than individual efforts alone. By combining our skills and perspectives, we were able to create a more cohesive and beautiful final outcome.

conclusion

Contributing to the Global Odyssey event as part of the decoration team was a fulfilling and enriching experience. It allowed me to showcase my strengths as an artist while also challenging me to grow in new ways. I gained valuable skills, from learning how to work with large-scale designs to improving my ability to collaborate and communicate effectively. Most importantly, this CAS experience reinforced the value of perseverance and commitment, as the final success of the event reflected the collective effort of the entire team.
