Global Odyssey 4.0 – CAS Project

The Global Odyssey 4.0 event was an enriching and hands-on initiative designed to simulate a real-world business environment, centered around small business stalls. The event aimed to give students practical experience in business management, allowing them to apply theoretical knowledge in a marketplace setting. I had the privilege of leading the fun department alongside two friends, where our primary responsibility was organizing engaging games and assigning team members to manage the various stalls. It was an exciting challenge, as our role was critical in attracting visitors, keeping them entertained, and ensuring the event had a lively atmosphere.

From the outset, our goal was to make each stall as appealing and interactive as possible. We understood that creating an inviting environment would enhance the overall experience for both the visitors and the stall owners. To do this, we brainstormed ideas that would blend entertainment with business. We designed interactive games that encouraged people to engage with the products being sold. For example, we created trivia games about the products, giving visitors the chance to win small prizes, and set up simple yet competitive games like balloon-popping and bean bag toss to bring energy to the event.

Our leadership responsibilities extended beyond just organizing the games. We were also tasked with assigning team members to manage the various stalls. This required careful planning, as we had to ensure that each stall was appropriately staffed while considering the strengths and preferences of the team members. We delegated tasks, provided instructions, and monitored the stalls throughout the day to ensure everything was running smoothly.

This experience contributed significantly to my personal growth, particularly in terms of leadership, organization, and teamwork.

Learning Outcome 2: Demonstrate that challenges have been undertaken, developing new skills in the process.

One of the main challenges we faced was coming up with creative activities that would appeal to a diverse group of visitors while aligning with the event’s business focus. Initially, it was difficult to strike a balance between making the games fun and ensuring they had some educational value or connection to the stalls. Through several brainstorming sessions with my teammates, we managed to create activities that were both entertaining and relevant to the business context.

Learning Outcome 3: Demonstrate how to initiate and plan a CAS experience.

Another challenge was ensuring that our team worked efficiently. With different stalls and games running simultaneously, it required a lot of coordination to keep everything organized. Assigning people to different roles, ensuring they knew their tasks, and managing last-minute changes pushed me to improve my organizational skills. In the process, I developed stronger communication and decision-making abilities, learning how to delegate tasks effectively and ensure the team remained motivated.

Learning Outcome 7: Recognize and consider the ethics of choices and actions.

In this role, I became more aware of the ethical responsibilities that come with leadership. For example, while assigning team members to the stalls, I had to ensure fairness, making sure everyone had an equal opportunity to participate and contribute. It was important to consider each person’s strengths and preferences without being biased, ensuring that the distribution of tasks was balanced and just.

Learning Outcome 5: Demonstrate the skills and recognize the benefits of working collaboratively.

Another ethical consideration was ensuring that the games we organized were inclusive and didn’t exclude any groups of visitors. We made a conscious effort to create activities that people of all ages and abilities could enjoy, making the event a welcoming space for everyone. Furthermore, we were mindful of sustainability by ensuring that materials used for the games were reusable or environmentally friendly, aligning with ethical practices related to environmental responsibility.

In conclusion, my role in leading the fun department at Global Odyssey 4.0 was both challenging and rewarding. It helped me hone my leadership, teamwork, and organizational skills while also encouraging me to consider the ethical aspects of decision-making. The experience taught me the importance of balancing fun with responsibility, and it was incredibly satisfying to contribute to the success of the event while growing as a leader and team player.
