FS Got Talent is an event designed to give students a platform to showcase their hidden talents and passions. This was the second season at Fountainhead, following the great success of the first one. As part of the organizing committee and one of the event leaders, I was tasked with numerous challenges, responsibilities, strategic planning, and collaboration. This opportunity allowed me to experience leadership firsthand, improve my organizational skills, and take on significant responsibilities. We planned the event from the ground up. Deciding on the segments, creating forms, getting approval from our mentors, managing participant responses, decor and more. We also communicated with participants, gathered their information, arranged props, instruments, and music, and decorated and hosted the event. This experience gave me a deep understanding of event management.

LO1: Identify your own strengths and develop areas for personal growth.
Being part of the core organizing team for such a large-scale event was a first for me, and one area where I saw personal growth was in crowd management. Handling a whole category on my own was initially overwhelming, but with the support of my team, I was able to navigate this challenge effectively. This experience highlighted an area I aim to continue developing, as crowd management skills will undoubtedly be valuable for future endeavors. It taught me how to remain calm and focused when managing a large group, improving my ability to lead and organize under pressure.

LO2: Demonstrate that challenges have been undertaken, developing new skills in the process.
Collaboration has always been a challenge for me, as I often struggle to engage fully in group settings, leading to feelings of disengagement. This event gave me the chance to confront and overcome this challenge. Through this experience, I actively participated in meetings, took others’ ideas into account, and fully immersed myself in the planning process. I now feel that I have significantly improved my collaborative skills, an area I previously lacked in. I put forth my best effort, staying involved even when my opinions were overlooked at times, and this experience allowed me to grow as a team player.

LOI 3: Demonstrate how to Initiate and Plan a CAS Experience.
Planning FS Got Talent required careful initiation and strategic planning. Our committee began by brainstorming ideas for event segments, considering the diverse talents of our student body. We created detailed plans that included timelines, roles, and responsibilities, ensuring that everyone understood their tasks. I took the lead in designing participant forms and gathering necessary approvals from our mentors. This process taught me the importance of thorough planning and communication in executing a successful event. Each step, from managing participant responses to coordinating logistics, enhanced my organizational abilities and reinforced the value of collective effort in achieving a common goal.

LOI 4: Show Commitment to and Perseverance in CAS experiences.
Throughout the planning and execution phases of FS Got Talent, my commitment to the project was unwavering. There were moments of stress, particularly as we approached the event date and faced last-minute challenges. However, I remained dedicated to ensuring everything ran smoothly. I supported my team during difficult times, reminding everyone of our shared vision and goals. My perseverance was evident in the countless hours we spent coordinating details, arranging props, and rehearsing with participants. This commitment not only strengthened my resolve but also inspired my peers to stay focused and motivated. Witnessing the culmination of our efforts during the event was incredibly rewarding and affirmed the importance of dedication.

LO5: Demonstrate the skills and recognize the benefits of working collaboratively.
The success of this event would not have been possible without the collaborative effort of my peers. The mix of ideas, values, and perspectives brought by each person was crucial to making this event a success. Working with a diverse group allowed us to explore different approaches and solutions we might not have considered on our own. Given the scale of the event, which included students from grades 7 to 12, it was essential to divide responsibilities. Having a team made the workload manageable, reducing stress and ensuring tasks were completed on time. Additionally, the shared experience of working together—waking up early, managing stress, and having fun along the way—made the entire journey more rewarding. I learned a great deal from my peers and gained a deeper appreciation for the value of teamwork, especially in moments where things went wrong and we had to come together to find solutions.

LO6: Demonstrate engagement with issues of global significance
FS Got Talent aligned with Sustainable Development Goal 4—quality educatio by emphasizing the value of extracurricular activities. This event highlighted the role of engaging activities in enhancing the educational experience. In contrast to students from other schools who often feel overwhelmed by their academic workload, FS Got Talent offers a way for students to relieve stress. Being in grade 11, I know firsthand the pressure of academic performance, and events like these are essential in creating a well-rounded, stress-relieving educational environment that fosters better learning.

LO7: Recognize and Consider the Ethics of Choices and Actions
Organizing FS Got Talent highlighted the ethical implications of our decisions. We prioritized inclusivity, ensuring all participants felt valued and supported. By establishing fair selection criteria, we created an environment where every student had an equal opportunity to showcase their talents. Engaging with participants helped us address their needs, fostering respect and encouragement. This experience deepened my understanding of ethical leadership and its impact on the school community. It reinforced the importance of integrity in teamwork, reminding me that our choices can significantly influence others’ experiences and well-being.
