As part of the CAS programme,  I had the opportunity to join the decor committee for our school’s farewell event for the seniors. This experience was not only rewarding, but what made this experience even more significant for me was my close relationship with many of the seniors. They had been mentors and friends throughout my time in school, and creating a memorable farewell for them felt incredibly meaningful. I wanted to ensure that the event reflected their journey and left an impression they would cherish forever.

LOI 2: Demonstrate That Challenges Have Been Undertaken, Developing New Skills in the process.
The decor committee faced numerous challenges, including budget constraints and time limitations. Initially, I felt overwhelmed by the responsibility of ensuring everything was perfect for the farewell. However, I learned to approach these challenges as opportunities for growth. I developed skills in budgeting and negotiation, which were crucial for sourcing materials. Each hurdle we overcame strengthened my resilience and adaptability, reinforcing the idea that challenges can lead to personal and collective growth.

LOI 3: Demonstrate how to Initiate and Plan a CAS Experience.
Planning the farewell decor was a significant project that required careful initiation and planning. We started by gathering ideas from our classmates and teachers, which helped us create a vision for the event. I took the lead in coordinating our efforts, assigning tasks based on individual strengths, and creating a timeline to keep us on track. This experience taught me the importance of clear communication and strategic planning in executing a successful project.

LO6 – Demonstrate engagement with issues of global significance

While planning the farewell event, I recognized the environmental impact of event decorations, a globally significant issue. To address this, our committee chose sustainable options such as biodegradable materials and reusable decorations, reducing waste and promoting eco-friendly practices. This experience highlighted the importance of making responsible choices that align with global sustainability efforts and encouraged our school community to be more environmentally conscious.
