Bal Mela was an incredible one-day fair where we had the opportunity to bring joy and learning to underprivileged children from rural schools near ours. I was the leader of the leg cricket activity, working alongside four other team members. Together, we taught the kids how to play this fun and engaging sport. It was rewarding to see their enthusiasm and excitement as they participated in the game, creating a lively atmosphere filled with teamwork and laughter. This experience allowed me to contribute to the community while honing my leadership and collaboration skills in a meaningful way.

LO1: Identify own strengths and develop areas for growth

Leading the leg cricket activity helped me recognize my ability to organize and engage with children in a way that made the sport fun and inclusive. However, I realized that I could improve my patience, especially when dealing with large groups of energetic kids. This experience pushed me to work on my ability to stay calm and focused in a high-energy environment.

LO2: Demonstrate that challenges have been undertaken, developing new skills

One of the challenges was managing a group of children who had never played leg cricket before. I had to simplify the rules and adjust the game to make it enjoyable for everyone, regardless of their skill level. This taught me how to adapt quickly and improve my communication skills, ensuring that every child felt included and had fun.

LO3: Initiate and plan a CAS experience

As the leader of the leg cricket activity, I took charge of planning how the sessions would run, coordinating with my team members, and ensuring we had all the materials needed for the game. Organizing the flow of activities and managing the time effectively was essential in making the experience smooth and enjoyable for the kids.

LO5: Demonstrate skills and benefits of working collaboratively

Working alongside my four teammates required strong collaboration and communication. We divided responsibilities, with each of us taking turns to explain, guide, and encourage the children during the activity. Our teamwork ensured that every aspect of the game ran smoothly, and we were able to keep the kids engaged and enthusiastic throughout the session.

LO7: Recognize and consider the ethics of choices and actions

Leading this activity made me reflect on the ethical responsibility we have towards underprivileged children. By offering them an enjoyable and educational experience, we contributed positively to their day, emphasizing the importance of fairness, inclusion, and respect. I was conscious of making sure all the kids felt equally valued, and this reinforced my commitment to ethical behavior in leadership roles.
