Monsoon Musings

Monsoon Musings, a literary event hosted on 3rd August, 2024, was our school’s spoken word festival. It gave students, teachers, and staff the chance to display their literary talents through poems or prose on themes like ‘The Story of my Life’ and ‘Festival of Hope’.

LO 1: Identify your strengths and areas for growth.

By participating in Monsoon Musings, I recognized my strength in public speaking and writing, especially in the way I crafted my poem for the event. I discovered that I have a natural ability to express emotions through words, which boosted my confidence in my writing. At the same time, I acknowledged areas for growth, such as improving my stage presence and managing nerves while performing in front of an audience. This realization prompted me to work on these aspects by practicing more frequently and seeking constructive feedback.

LO 2: Demonstrate that challenges have been undertaken, developing new skills in the process.

The event presented several challenges, particularly in the preparation phase, as I had to write a piece that was both personal and impactful. Crafting a piece that resonated with both me and the audience required me to refine my writing skills and think critically about my chosen themes. Additionally, performing live posed its own challenge of overcoming stage fright. Through this experience, I developed new skills in public speaking, time management, and self-expression, which I will continue to apply in future opportunities.

LO 4: Show commitment to and perseverance in CAS experiences

While preparing for Monsoon Musings, I had to balance other responsibilities, such as completing internal assessments and keeping up with the school syllabus, which made it challenging to dedicate enough time to the event. Despite this, I demonstrated perseverance in preparing for Monsoon Musings, driven by my passion for literature and my desire to write a memorable poem. To stay committed, I made the effort to wake up early and use any free time during school effectively, ensuring that I could manage all my tasks. Though it was difficult to maintain such dedication, this experience helped me become more determined and disciplined in managing my responsibilities.
