Personal Sports (PS) is a slot where students select a sport which they love or can play for about 45-55 minutes. The school thinks about the student’s health and wellbeing and has added 3-4 slots in a week for sports. Personally , I love playing football and I enjoy the game a lot. I am a big football fan as I love to play and watch football games. I have been playing football since 7-8 years and am trying to improve the playing style as well as trying to learn new skills. Its an activity where you can showcase your gameplay , improve the health and wellbeing , and get some free time from studies.
Learning Outcome 1 – Identify Own Strengths and Develop Areas for Growth :
As we have 4 slots each week , not every slot is a match. In some slots we even have trainings and fitness sessions where we can stay fit to compete in the match. While , the training improves our game and sets us ready , fitness helps in improving our body for the game. There are still many places where I need to improve and which needs time and patience. Although I am good in defending and passing , but my touches and fitness needs to be improved. There is always room for improvement in each aspects and football is a sport where you have too much to learn. By watching football games , my football knowledge has improved a lot which can be useful during games.
Learning Outcome 3 – Initiate and plan a CAS experience :
Now the task was on me to improve my game , communication skills and team work. I had to initiate the CAS experience by playing the game , enjoying the game and improving in the aspects where I lacked. I had also conducted another CAS experience by showcasing my football skills and knowledge by teaching kids from the government school. I had also worked upon the feedback which I recieved from my coaches as I improved in those aspects. I also tried different roles by playing as a Midfielder as well as my original role of being a Defender. During the end of the Term 2 in Grade 11 and in the middle of the Term 1 in Grade 12 , we had our Inter-house competitions. This was a competition which helped in knowing which house (divisions of students into 4 groups of the school such as Integrity , Dignity , Unity , Liberty) stood where in the game of Football. Surprisingly we won the event with a great team work and communication skills.
Learning Outcome 4 – Show Perseverance and Commitment in CAS Experiences :
The PS which I had chosen was for 1 full year of Grade 11 and I had also decided to continue in the Grade 12. This required consistency and commitment as the task was for a full year. Naturally , if you love the game , you will tend to show commitment and consistency in the CAS experience. During this period , we had performed various activities as a part of the training like dribbling , passing , headers , trapping , shooting and endurance tests . On various occasions , we had matches on small ground as well as big ground with 11 vs 11 matches. Our teams were rotated so we hardly play with the same players during the 3 terms of CAS experience. Overall , the 3 terms / 18 months were really playful and helpful as I enjoyed playing the sport which I like while also balancing sports with studies as I explored the other parts of the game
Learner Profiles which I had used:
The learner profiles I used were Communicators , Balanced and Risk Takers. Communicators was used to communicate with my team mates as football require communication with players to effectively. Additionally , communication is also required with coaches for feedback and tips. Balanced learner profile is used as with studies , sports is also important. Students should maintain a good health and well being in order to stay fit and there should be extracurricular activities for each student to stay well balanced. Lastly , Risk-takers’ learner profile is used as Football is a very dangerous game with chances of injuries , so taking a sport which is dangerous was a very risk taking decision.
