The G-12 farewell event was a truly memorable experience, one that gave me the opportunity to reflect on my personal growth and enjoy the spirit of collaboration. As part of the dance team, I contributed to creating a heartfelt and entertaining performance for our seniors, making their farewell day a special one. This experience was both challenging and fulfilling, pushing me to develop new skills, step out of my comfort zone, and cherish the value of teamwork.
LO1 – Identify own strengths and develop areas for growth– Dancing in front of an audience has never been my strong suit, and I’ve always doubted my ability to perform under pressure. Joining the farewell dance team made me confront these fears. Initially, I struggled with the choreography and coordination, but with consistent effort and feedback from my peers, I found myself improving day by day. This experience revealed my strength in adapting and learning quickly, as well as an area for growth—building confidence while performing in front of others. It reminded me that growth happens when I’m willing to try new things and embrace challenges.
LO2 – Demonstrate that challenges have been undertaken, developing new skills – Preparing for the farewell performance was far from easy. We had only two weeks to learn and perfect two high-energy routines that were each 10 minutes long. The short timeframe felt overwhelming, especially as I was balancing academic commitments alongside rehearsals. There were moments when I doubted whether I’d be able to keep up, but I refused to give up. With determination and persistence, I not only mastered the choreography but also developed better time-management skills. This challenge taught me that no matter how tough things may seem, consistent effort pays off, and new skills can be learned even in high-pressure situations.
LO4 – Show perseverance and commitment in CAS experiences The farewell was a significant milestone for our seniors, and it felt like our responsibility to make it unforgettable for them. The pressure to deliver a flawless performance motivated me to stay committed throughout the process, despite the challenges. From early-morning rehearsals to long hours of practice after school, I gave my all to ensure that I was well-prepared for the event. This commitment wasn’t just about dancing—it was about honoring the bond we shared with our seniors and ensuring that their farewell was filled with joy and fond memories.
LO5 – Demonstrate skills and benefits of working collaboratively The success of our dance performance wouldn’t have been possible without teamwork. The entire dance team worked together seamlessly, supporting one another and sharing ideas to make our performance stand out. Whether it was helping each other with tricky steps or encouraging one another during tiring rehearsals, our collaboration was the key to our success. Time management was also a challenge, as the farewell followed closely after Global Odyssey, leaving us with limited time to prepare. However, by dividing tasks and communicating effectively, we managed to pull everything together. This experience reinforced how powerful collaboration can be and how working together can turn even the most demanding tasks into enjoyable achievements.
Reflecting on the farewell dance, I’m filled with gratitude for the lessons it taught me. It wasn’t just about dancing; it was about pushing myself, building connections, and being part of a shared purpose. The joy and appreciation on our seniors’ faces made every effort worthwhile, and it’s a memory I will always treasure.
