For my component of service, I participated in a community service initiative where I was part of the football committee. As a leader in this program, I guided children from underprivileged schools in learning the basics of football while creating a fun and engaging environment. The sessions took place over six weekends at our school, allowing me to combine my passion for football with a meaningful way to give back to the community.

LO5: Demonstrate Skills and Benefits of Working Collaboratively

Collaboration was a key aspect of this program. My classmates and I worked as a team to manage large groups of children and overcome language barriers. For instance, a teammate who spoke fluent Gujarati helped translate instructions, making the sessions more effective. Working together allowed us to handle challenges efficiently and create a supportive environment for the participants.

LO6: Engagement with Issues of Global Significance

This program addressed global issues such as equal access to opportunities and promoting physical well-being. By introducing underprivileged children to a new sport, we contributed to SDG 3 (Good Health and Well-being) and SDG 4 (Quality Education). Football not only provided physical activity but also fostered teamwork, confidence, and a sense of achievement among the participants.

LO7: Recognize and Consider the Ethics of Choices and Actions

Throughout the program, I made a conscious effort to ensure that all students felt valued and included. We emphasized the importance of sportsmanship, respect, and teamwork, which created a positive and encouraging environment. I also ensured that the activities were accessible to children of all skill levels, helping build their confidence.

Being part of the football committee was a deeply rewarding experience. It allowed me to combine my passion for football with an opportunity to make a meaningful impact on the lives of children. The program challenged me to step out of my comfort zone, improve my leadership skills, and engage with broader social issues. It reinforced the importance of teamwork and adaptability, and I look forward to using these skills in future service initiatives.
