Global Odyssey is a business management and economics event hosted every year, around the idea of “fun, food and fashion”. The theme for global odyssey for our batch was Cherry Blossom. The main idea behind global odyssey is to explain us on how to run a business and manage factors such as accounts and management of goods/services, through a fun way. Few students from business management and few from economics made a team for the photobooth stall, of which I was a part of. We created a background for the audience to get pictures clicked in options of polaroid or digital print on the spot so that this event could be memorable for them.
LO2 – Demonstrate that challenges have been undertaken, developing new skills. The major challenge we came across was time management as the timings of students from economics and BM did not match, hence we had to work in pairs or smaller groups to complete the task. Moreover, choosing backdrop designs was also a major issue as we had to choose a background that is suitable for everyone in the audience. Also, going out to purchase items were a bit difficult due to clashing schedules. However at the end we were able to achieve all of the above when we decided to work during free slots in pairs so that delay of work is not done. Through this, I developed time -management and problem solving skills.
LO3 – Initiate and plan a CAS experience. The event was not only on-day but a month full of planning, preparing and management of various parts of a business. This included preparing the whole photobooth stall from the start to the end and give inputs in the planning of the whole event. We had to plan out the whole business idea, from going to purchase polaroid films, finding alternatives to large printers, finding places to get items in a cheaper cost and to distributing tasks for the event day.
LO4 – Show perseverance and commitment in CAS experience. As mentioned earlier, that a lot of times we had to work out of school hours as well to match timings and complete the work, sometimes we all had to go individually to stores if they were near to our houses. The whole month duration was a bit hectic as some times the tasks use to clash with pre-planned activities, however I learned how to manage them as I had committed to complete the task.
LO5 – Demonstrate skills and benefits of working collaboratively.
The whole process required a lot of teamwork and understanding each other’s strength and weakness which led to a smooth event for us. Since the start, we divided tasks amongst ourselves based on what we can do easily, saving time as well. With teamwork we were easily able to put up the photobooth decoration even after it came coming of again and again. This not only taught us working collaboratively but make it fun to work within a group.
