Farewell as an event ignites plethora of emotions for an individual and as a junior it gave me a chance to bid goodbye to my seniors and celebrate the end of their academic journey. This event was more than just saying goodbye, it was also a long period of planning that pushed my limits in order to make the event a memorable one. I was a member of the core committee which as a whole looked after decor, dance and logistics, however, my main role in this event was proof reading scripts and selecting members for the dance performance. I did not restrict myself to the role of an organizer and even participated in several dance performances. This event gave me the perfect opportunity to showcase my skills in the form of dance and organization along with building upon hard work and team work in order to make the event successful. It also allowed me to fulfill majority of my LOs such as – 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, and 7.
LO1- Identify own strengths and develop areas for growth
One of my strengths is that I am organized. I was able to plan particular deadlines and ensure that everybody in the team was completing the same on time. This skill aided me to ensure that the progress expected in a particular time-span was being achieved. I was also able to use my communication skills while giving suggestions regarding songs for the dance performance and also helping my peers learn the choreography whenever they faced a hurdle. However, there were several shortcomings such as my short temper which often made me angry, however, as time passed it was necessary for me to start accepting that team work will only lead to frutiful results if everyone was able to come to the same page and hence, I was also able to grow in this manner.
LO2- – Demonstrate that challenges have been undertaken, developing new skills in the process
The challenges that I faced were mostly through the constant critical feed back being recieved by different people despite the team working as efficently as one could. In the beginning when the invitation to seniors for the farewell did not get turn out well everybody started to doubt the credibility of our work which also led to self-doubt. Along with this, the constant quarrels between the team members , mostly because of difference in opinions led to chaos at time which was aggrevated by the delay in resources. However, as time went by I was able overcome these challenges by stepping out of my comfort zone and having a better and open outlook towards other people’s opinion. Once this was achieved, the team as a whole and me as an individual was able to work more efficiently than what was previously anticipated and at last the event was a success.
LO3- Demonstrate how to initiate and plan a CAS experience
While undertaking farewell as my project, I was clear that this event had to be executed well and in order to do that I began by setting clear objectives for the project and devising a structured plan, including timelines, role allocations, and resource management. Initiating the scripting process required analyzing the purpose of the event and aligning the content with school’s policy while also ensuring it resonated with the audience. Concurrently, I collaborated with team members to organize rehearsals and address fostering a cohesive and efficient workflow. This experience honed my ability to anticipate potential obstacles, adapt plans as needed, and maintain focus on delivering a meaningful outcome, reinforcing the importance of thoughtful planning and initiative in achieving success.
LO 4- Show perseverance and commitment to CAS experience
Considering that the process of organizing the farewell was a month long, it was important for me to showcase the aforementioned attributes in order to make the event successful. I displayed commitment by dedicating consistent effort to refining scripts, organizing rehearsals, and resolving unforeseen challenges, such as last-minute changes in songs or the members of the dance team. Perseverance was key during moments when plans needed adjustment or when tasks became demanding such as seeking permission for different resources and asking for permission to give more time to the event. I remained focused on the goals and motivated my team to do the same. This combination of thoughtful planning and dedication ensured that the plans were executed in a proper manner.
LO5- Demonstrate the skills and recognize the benefits of working collaboratively
Team work was one of the most important aspects of this event because we started off with 8 members where we struggled to achieve the bare minimum due to lack of man-power and resources. However, as the event got closer we became a team of 51 which benefitted us to bring our vision into reality. If we would have not worked as a team we would have never pulled this off. We used to spend a lot of time together where we used to discuss the pathway to the event, share the progress of each team, give feedback on the work done so far and the most important one was inculcating the opinions and suggestions of various people. This helped make the process smoother and better which made the event more successful.
LO7- Recognize and consider the ethics of choices and actions
Even though this event was a fun one, it was necessary for me to evaluate my choices. Such a whike reviewing the scripts, I was mindful of ensuring that the language and themes used were inclusive and respectful by avoiding content that could unintentionally offend or exclude any audience group. Organizational decisions, such as allocating roles and managing resources, were made transparently and equitably, ensuring fairness among team members. Additionally, I considered the importance of minimizing waste during event preparation in order to make the event a bit more sustainable.
